Actor, DJ, and Sexiest Man Alive Idris Elba has been in quarantine and isolation in New Mexico with his wife, Canadian-native Sabrina Dhowre, since mid-March when he tested positive for COVID-19. Since then, the borders have closed all around the world and they haven’t been able to get a flight home to London, so the duo have been checking in with us every once in a while to provide us with updates on their health. Luckily, from the start, their symptoms were mild and they recovered after two weeks, but while they might be jonesing for home like mad, it seems like quarantine is something Idris has developed a taste for.“I think that the world should take a week of quarantine every year just to remember this time,” the 47-year-old Luther star told The Associated Press, “I really do.” Wait – and we cannot stress this enough – what? “Other species use it. It's called hibernation,” he continued. “But it does remind you that the world doesn't tick on your time.”Hmm, we’re not sure we like this TED talk, but maybe he’s on to something?[video_embed id='1932096']RELATED: Idris Elba shares coronavirus health update[/video_embed]Elba spoke about the personal hardships he’s had to endure so far away from home, including missing his son’s 6th birthday, but it seems like this entire ordeal has left him counting his blessings. “It's been about six weeks from the beginning to this point right now for us, where it’s essentially our lives turned around ... Definitely scary and unsettling and nervous. And I think that’s been like a real collected world experience,” he said. Then Sabrina added, “Thankfully, we were extremely lucky to be able to get very mild cases of COVID and the outpouring of support and all of the people who have reached out to us, it’s just been overwhelming.”It’s hard to argue with the we’re-all-in-this-together solidarity the globe is feeling right now, and also it has been a humbling experience to have all that we take for granted ripped away from us, but considering the record rates of unemployment, a flailing economy, increased mental health troubles and bouts of loneliness, we’re not sure the world would benefit from an annual quarantine. We would give our left arm to go to movies and concerts again, Idris!Twitter is having a hard time with his idea, with a split between those who think it’s not so crazy an idea, and those who think he’s stark-raving mad, so maybe we’ll just have to check in with him next year to see where he stands!
