It was supposed to be one of the happiest times in her life but Hilaria Baldwin revealed some heartbreaking news on Monday. She revealed in an emotional video that she suffered a miscarriage, losing her fifth child with husband Alex Baldwin. The mother of four had her 20-week ultrasound and it was during the visit that she said she received the tragic news."We are very sad to share that today we learned that our baby passed away at 4 months," she captioned her Instagram post. "We also want you to know that even though we are not ok right now, we will be. We are so lucky with our 4 healthy babies—and we will never lose sight of this." She went on to explain that she recorded a message with her eldest daughter, Carmen, so they could send it to Alec and decided it was worth sharing with followers as well. "I told her that this baby isn’t going to come after all...but we will try very hard to give her a little sister another time. I'm really devastated right now...I was not expecting this when I went to my scan today. I don't know what else to say...I'm still in shock and don’t have this all quite clear." Hilaria went on to ask the paparazzi to give her some space.
The last several months have been tough for Hilaria and Alec, as they've been trying for a fifth child. She announced her pregnancy
in September, five months after she revealed she was "most likely experiencing a miscarriage," which she
later confirmed.Hilaria said at the time that she wanted to talk about the loss as a way to encourage others to feel OK enough to talk about their struggles to conceive."I always promised myself that if I were to get pregnant again, I would share the news with you guys pretty early, even if that means suffering a public loss," she
wrote in April. "I have always been so open with you all about my family, fitness, pregnancies … and I don't want to keep this from you, just because it isn't as positive and shiny as the rest."She added: "I think it's important to show the truth because my job is to help people by being real and open. Furthermore, I have no shame or embarrassment with this experience. I want to be a part of the effort to normalize miscarriage and remove the stigma from it."So to the person who commented on Hilaria's most recent post wondering why she needs to "make every aspect of [her] life public, particularly so soon," there's your answer. The majority of the comments, however, have been loving and supportive.Niece Hailey Bieber wrote, "I'm so sorry. Love you guys," while Mario Lopez wrote, "Dios te bendiga," which translates to "God bless you." Many others sent their love and best wishes to the family, with attorney and advocate Dawn Smalls summing it up quite nicely: "Hilaria, I am so sorry to hear this! Every loss is hard but even more so when you think you've cleared the initial hurdles and think everything is going to be OK. Be generous with yourself and take the time you need to heal and hug those babies tight."
