When you date a musician, there’s a good chance you could end up immortalized in a song. No one knows that better than Harry Styles, who has written a song or two about his famous exes and has been immortalized in pop culture himself. Styles’ love life has made headlines and topped the charts largely thanks to his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift. During his first appearance on the Howard Stern Radio Show this week, Styles talked about Swift’s tribute to their short-lived relationship, for better or worse.“There’s not a lot of, like, interviews where I talk a lot about personal stuff, but I’m fine doing it in music,” said Styles, whose 2017 song “Two Ghosts” has some very Swift-esque details. “But how do you feel when someone does that to you?” asked Stern. “When Taylor Swift writes a song and everyone assumes it’s about you, Harry, does that upset you?”Thankfully for Styles, his famous ex is also one of the best songwriters of his generation, something Styles says has a bearing on his response. “No, that doesn’t upset me,” said Styles. “I think about what it means to me to write a song about somebody else and, if somebody has to do that, I think it’s like flattering. Even if the song isn’t that flattering, you’ve still spent time on it and, ultimately, using Taylor as an example, she’s a great songwriter,” adds Styles, who is rumoured to have inspired Swift’s “Style” and “Out of the Woods.”“The only time you really, like, think about, ‘Oh, is this song too personal?’ is if you think about is this going to be really annoying for this other person,” he continued.Styles also opened up about his love life in 2020, admitting that he is single and was almost killed this year because of his lack of a coupling. Well, that may be a bit extreme, but it’s important to stay vigilant when going out solo. Styles was walking home alone on Valentine’s Day when he was approached by a group of men on an otherwise empty street. The group were armed with knives and demanded his cash, which he handed over. They also wanted Styles to unlock his phone, which the musician didn’t do because it contained new music (people, don’t get stabbed for your phone even if it has a new album on it). “There was a pond behind them. I thought about throwing it in the pond,” said Harry. When the group gave him to the count of 10 to unlock his phone, he ran.[video_embed id='1907620']RELATED: Harry Styles reportedly hires Mick Jagger's former bodyguard[/video_embed]“I just felt an opportunity. I just sprinted, ran,” said Styles. “I ran into the road and I tried to stop a car. Obviously if a mad man runs into the road and tries to get in your car, you’re not gonna let them in, so they don’t let me in,” said Harry, who eventually made his way home and filed a police report.Styles and Stern also discussed Harry’s time in boy band One Direction, including the surprise exit of original member Zayn Malik while the band was on tour. Styles doesn’t hold any ill-will towards his former bandmate, saying “I don’t know if I could say it’s something he shouldn’t have done because I just didn’t feel that way, so it’s hard for me to condemn it … looking at it now, the last thing I would’ve wanted was for him to stay there if he didn’t want to be there.”[video_embed id='1910052']RELATED: Taylor Swift literally becomes the man in her new music video[/video_embed]
