Harry, Meghan and Archie are spending the holidays in Canada

We already knew that Prince Harry, Duchess Meghan and their son, Archie, would not be putting in any face time with the rest of the British Royal Family over the holidays. But while it was widely reported the Sussexes would be spending their time in America with Meg's mother, Doria Ragland, it's been confirmed they're going back to another place they consider home: Canada."Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are spending private family time in Canada," a spokesperson for the couple confirmed in a statement to the media on Friday. "The decision to base themselves in Canada reflects the importance of this Commonwealth country to them both." The statement added that no other details would be released "for security reasons," in addition to ensuring "their privacy is respected." And along with Meghan making her home here during her Suits run, Harry has been a "frequent visitor" to the country — during his time with Meg and prior to that. It concluded: "They are enjoying sharing the warmth of the Canadian people and the beauty of the landscape with their young son."Last month, Buckingham Palace confirmed that Harry, Meghan and Archie would be spending a quiet Christmas with Doria, and helpfully pointed out to all the haters that they're not the first members of the BRF to do so. And the new family had "the support of Her Majesty The Queen" so, no, Harry's grandmum wasn't disappointed that they'd be missing from Sandringham. Christmas in Canada makes perfect sense for the royal couple. Not only was it Meghan's home for seven years (and where they holed themselves up before their relationship was discovered by the public), but it's also where many of her closest friends are, including her bestie, Jessica Mulroney. Heck, it's with the Mulroneys that the two reportedly sought refuge after rumours of their relationship first began stirring in 2016. It's also where they made their first official joint appearance, at the Invictus Games in Toronto in September 2017.

It's unknown whether the family has already crossed the pond and are stashed away but leave it to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to roll out the red carpet on Twitter, to welcome the royal couple.

There were reports earlier this year that Harry and Meghan might be moving to Africa (though jettisoned might be a better choice of wording), and their royal visit to the continent in October only added to the rumours. But the Sussexes also considered moving to Canada, at one point, and considering all the crap they've had to endure, it wouldn't be the worst decision.Baby steps, though. Christmas in Canada, just the four of them and with people Meghan and Harry both love and trust?
