Harry and Meghan’s first order of business after officially leaving the royal family was to announce the new name of their foundation. The couple were asked by the palace to rename Susex Royal, the foundation the pair were working under while still representing her majesty the Queen. No longer serving the monarchy, Harry and Meghan decided to rename their foundation after the same ruler every new parent has—their child. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced this week that their foundation will now be known as Archewell in honour of their 11-month-old son, Archie. The couple released a statement about the decision, which has now been shared by People. “Like you, our focus is on supporting efforts to tackle the global COVID-19 pandemic, but faced with this information coming to light, we felt compelled to share the story of how this came to be,” wrote Harry and Meghan, who in addition to their tiny ruler also took inspiration from ancient sources for their new foundation name.“Before SussexRoyal came the idea of ‘arche’—the Greek word meaning ‘source of action,’. We connected to this concept for the charitable organization we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name. To do something of meaning, to do something that matters. Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon,” said the couple, adding “We look forward to launching Archewell when the time is right.”[video_embed id='1932815']RELATED: Meghan and Harry are officially out of office[/video_embed]Harry and Meghan have yet to specify exactly what type of projects their newly-named foundation will take on, but The Telegraph reports that the couple has filed trademark protection for the name in several sectors. While still working under the Sussex Royal title, the couple focused their efforts on mental health, the environment and educational and work opportunities for disadvantaged girls and women. It’s likely that the pair will continue their efforts in these arenas and possibly expand to incorporate even more worthy causes. As noted in the details the Duke and Duchess laid out on their website prior to their March 31 exit, Harry will continue his work with wounded soldiers as the founding member of the Invictus Games. It was in this same document that the couple noted that “while there is not any jurisdiction by The Monarchy or Cabinet Office over the use of the word ‘Royal’ overseas,” they would no longer use the title Sussex Royal. Do we detect some royal shade?Harry and Meghan have been literally making moves since their tenure as working members of the royal family ended at the end of last month. The couple relocated from the house they’ve been renting on Vancouver Island since November and have now reportedly settled in Meghan’s hometown of Los Angeles. The pair also turned on their out of office notifications for their Duke and Duchess email account and posted a goodbye message on their Sussex Royal Instagram page. “As we all find the part we are to play in this global shift and changing of habits, we are focusing this new chapter to understand how we can best contribute,” wrote Harry and Meghan in their sendoff post. “While you may not see us here, the work continues.”[video_embed id='1934694']BEFORE YOU GO: Queen says 'better days will return' in rare address[/video_embed]
