If you’re looking for a way to pass the time on Tuesday night, Gabrielle Union has you covered. The
L.A.’s Finest star is hosting the next episode of her
Zoom Where it Happens series, and this time she’s tackling one of the most popular series on the planet:
Friends.Yup, grab your oversized coffees and snuggle in on the giant couch, fam, because Sterling K. Brown, Uzo Aduba, Kendrick Sampson, Jeremy Pope, Aisha Hinds and Ryan Bathe have been cast as the new
Friends crew in a reading of “The One Where No One’s Ready,” from the show’s third season. In this table read Brown plays Ross, Bathe plays Rachel, Hinds is Monica, Aduba is Phoebe, Sampson plays Joey and last but not least, Pope stars as Chandler. Joining them on the production team are the likes of Cynthia Erivo, Kerry Washington, Rashida Jones, Issa Rae, Ava DuVernay, Channing Dungey and more. It’s all in a bid to raise awareness for the upcoming election and to encourage voting.“To tune-in and enjoy this evening, sign up to receive messages about how you can make a change during this election,” reads the official description
on the event site. “This episode is spotlighting and supporting When We All Vote - a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit on a mission to change the culture around voting by bringing together citizens, institutions, brands, and organizations to increase participation in every election.
Zoom Where It Happens aims to catalyze voters and amplify the fight for voting rights and electoral justice, through culture and entertainment.”[video_embed id='2021523']RELATED: Gabrielle Union calls ‘AGT’ drama the ‘hardest’ part of her career[/video_embed]The
Friends table read will be the second in the series; earlier this month, Union brought together Tracee Ellis Ross, Alfre Woodard, Regina King and Sanaa Lathan for
a table read of Golden Girls just in time for the show’s 35
th anniversary. “We've selected popular four-quadrant shows to attract a wide cross-section of potential voters," Bathe, who is also a producer,
said in a statement to
The Hollywood Reporter. “We're thrilled to see how many people have embraced the series and are actively motivated to get out the vote this November.”Meanwhile, it seems pretty clear that the appetite for fresh
Friends content is as strong as ever. The
upcoming Friends reunion at HBO Max was one of the most anticipated events of the year, and even though it has been indefinitely delayed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow gave fans a sneak peek
with a mini-reunion during the virtual Emmys on September 20.“The One Where No One’s Ready” originally aired on September 26, 1996, which makes it nearly 24 years old. It’s one of the few standalone episodes of the series, with the majority of the episode taking place on one set, and the scenes going down in real time. The setup is that Ross needs the gang to get ready for his black tie event, but no one seems to be taking it seriously. Between Chandler hiding Joey’s underwear, Joey putting on every single piece of Chandler’s clothing, Monica obsessing over an old message on the answering machine from Richard (Tom Selleck), and Ross trying to mend things with Rachel (again), this should truly be a memorable night on the old Zoom.[video_embed id='-1']RELATED: Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow had a 'Friends' reunion at the Emmys[/video_embed]
