It was a scary scene on the evening of November 11 at Denzel Washington’s home. Firefighters responded to reports of smoke coming from the second floor of the Oscar-winner's home on Wednesday night. Luckily it appears as though no one was injured.Thankfully in this case, where there’s smoke, there was no fire. Members of the Los Angeles fire crew rushed to Washington’s home in Beverly Crest, one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in California. Page Six is reporting that no flames were visible, but smoke could be seen coming from the top level of the massive home. The Los Angeles Fire Department is reporting that the smoke was likely caused by the home’s furnace, releasing a statement saying “The investigation is largely focused on one of several furnaces in the home that may have been recently serviced.”The fire department used thermal imaging cameras to search the 28,887-square-foot home and found no active fire. Residents of the home were evacuated while fire crews searched the home and were eventually allowed back inside the residence. It’s unknown whether the Training Day actor was at home at the time. Fans of the beloved actor were relieved to hear that Washington and his family were safe. Not today, 2020. Not today. The notoriously private Washington has yet to make a statement on the smoke at his home. The actor, director and producer has stayed busy during the ongoing global pandemic by promoting his latest film, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Washington is a producer on the film, which stars Viola Davis as the Mother of Blues. Scheduled to be released on Netflix on December 18, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom acts as the final film for the late Chadwick Boseman. The film is based on playwright August Wilson’s 1982 play and is the second of Wilson’s pieces that Washington has brought to the big screen. Davis won an Oscar for her role in 2016’s Fences, which she co-starred in with Washington, who also directed the film based on Wilson’s 1985 Pulitzer Prize winning play.Washington is also set the direct the upcoming drama A Journal for Jordan. Michael B. Jordan will play First Sergeant Charles Monroe King, who kept a journal for his newborn son while he was deployed in 2006. Chante Adams will play King’s partner Dana Canedy, who published a bestselling memoir in 2008 about her life with King and the legacy he left behind for their son, Jordan. King was tragically killed in Iraq when the couple’s son was only seven months old.Jordan was one of the many actors to honour Washington in 2019 when he received the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award, calling him an inspiration.
