Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich shocked fans everywhere this week by
breaking up just two months after they got engaged. After all, their love story seemed like one for the fairytale books—quarantine snuggling, beachside proposal, photoshoot and all. Yet dig a little deeper and maybe this breakup isn’t exactly
that surprising. In fact, fans have already been guessing that this break was bound to happen sooner or later. Underneath the pretty pictures and beautiful words these two shared about each other on Instagram, there were some pretty big problems unfolding. Let’s dive in, shall we?
The distance
Long-distance relationships are hard, but when you’ve become so attached to a person in quarantine and have been spending every waking day with them, the distance has to be even harder when the love nest goes away. Max has been filming in Atlanta, and while Demi spent a good amount of time there to be with him, she’s a pretty busy celeb too. And while Atlanta and Los Angeles aren’t that far apart when you’ve got money and can afford such plane rides, that distance would take a toll on any relationship.
Their careers are on different paths
Naturally, planning a wedding and trying to figure out hectic schedules as production opens back up can be taxing. Doing so in two different locations is extra hard. But fans aren’t forgetting that Ehrich’s newfound fame has a lot to do with the fact that he was dating Lovato, and now new doors are opening up for him that he just wants to dance through.
According to Us Weekly, some of Lovato’s closet friends had concerns about her long-term future with Ehrich for that very reason. “He is just kicking off his career. Friends thought they were going to implode,” a source told the publication. “[Demi] is used to being the star in their dynamic, and Max is really loving the newfound attention,” the insider added. “He is really excited about all the career opportunities coming his way.”[video_embed id='2044730']RELATED: Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich's breakup 'he said, she said'[/video_embed]The distance "put a strain" on their relationship, another insider
explained to People. "Max shot up in fame, and it's been hard. He got wrapped up in [Hollywood]."
The Gomez of it all
There were definitely fans who had an inkling Max and Demi were going to call it quits when Max was
accused of being obsessed with Selena Gomez, not to mention sending weird and inappropriate messages to Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande. Shortly after the engagement, a contingent of Gomez fans began claiming that Ehrich was Gomez’s biggest fan, and that he actually thirsted after her. In fact, screenshots of the tweets make it pretty obvious that Max was indeed ogling Demi’s BFF, but you be the judge.
At the time,
Demi responded to the news in her Instagram stories, claiming the tweets were fake. “It’s really sad when people FAKE images to pit women against each other. If women have conflict that’s between them NOT YOU. Secondly, don’t yall have more important shit to write about in 2020??? I challenge any tabloid that dares to type my name to mention Breonna Taylor and the fact that her murderers still haven’t been arrested. WRITE ABOUT THAT,” she said.
The sheer speed of it all
Whether distance, career goals, and weird tweets played into it all or not remains to be seen (at time of press, neither party has actually confirmed the breakup or taken down their Instagram images of each other), but at the end of the day let’s not forget that these two had a pretty quick romance. They began dating in March and became
engaged just four months later, fast-tracking their relationships while in quarantine.“Demi and Max were basically together 24/7 for months,”
People also reports a source as saying. “They lived in a bubble with zero stress, and everything was just fun. Now they are both working and are on separate coasts.” In other words? It seems like reality finally caught up to these two and they decided to pump the breaks. No matter what’s in store for their futures—together or apart, here’s hoping they each find happiness.[video_embed id='-1']Girl crashes her dad's boat and is very apologetic right away[/video_embed]
