The Pitch Perfect franchise amassed millions of fans over three films thanks to its incredible musical performances and emotional on-screen connections that displayed the power of friendship. The three films were also bitingly funny thanks in large part to Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins. The very un-PC a cappella competition announcers reprised their roles this week in the name of charity and in the name of making fun of NASCAR. Or as they like to call it, a car parade.Appearing alongside NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr., Banks and Higgins were in full (very full) hair and makeup as the hilariously harsh commentators Gail and John. Bringing their aca-sensibilities or lack thereof to a pre-recorded race, the disastrous duo were quick to prove they know nothing about professional racing and everything about sharing their opinions.[video_embed id='1597056']RELATED: Will Arnett says he'd be a much better astronaut than Elizabeth Banks and James Corden[/video_embed]“Once these cars get enough momentum, they just start to fly, right? They just take right off because they’re little airplanes,” joked Banks. “You know what else could spice things up? A pedestrian. Just have someone run across the track. See what happens!”As usual, Gail and John were quick to veer the conversation towards Gail’s many ex-husbands and the pair's sexual exploits, comparing their prom nights to the speed at which the NASCAR pit crews can repair cars. It wouldn’t be Gail and John if we weren’t laughing and uncomfortable at the same time.
Banks and Higgins were part of the latest installment of NBC’s Peacock streaming service and their new viral videos that are helping to raise awareness and money for Americares, Feeding America and United Way. Actor, writer and voice chameleon Seth MacFarlane introduced the pair and joked about the similarities between the Pitch Perfect films and Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show and pretty much any project MacFarlane has worked on in the past decade. “If I had known you could make so much money by mixing comedy and cheesy singing, I probably would have the same career as I do now.”In addition to starring in all three Pitch Perfect films, Banks also directed the second installment in the franchise, which helped the actor land the coveted spot behind the camera for 2019’s highly anticipated Charlie’s Angels reboot.Earlier this month, Banks reprised another one of her famous roles to help spread awareness for COVID-19. Teaming up with the Lego team and Chris Pratt, Banks got back into character as Lucy from The Lego Movie to help perform a new song about practicing good hygiene and staying a safe distance away from others. Set to the tune of “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes,” Banks and Pratt sang “Hands, Elbows, Face and Space,” reminding kids to wash their hands, cough into their elbow, avoid touching their face and keep a large space between themselves and those outside their home. Actually, this is a great video for adults as well.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Pup is just so confused by owner's mocking sounds [/video_embed]
