Ed Sheeran has broken his eight-month social media hiatus to make a very special announcement: he and his wife Cherry Seaborn have welcomed a baby girl to the world. The “Thinking Out Loud” singer hopped on Instagram on September 1 to briefly update fans with his big news.“Ello! A quick message from me as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you... Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter - Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran,” he shared alongside a photo of a knitted blanket and some socks. “We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here. We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time. Lots of love and I’ll see you when it’s time to come back, Ed x.”
Rumours that the couple was expecting first surfaced in early August after The Sun reported the news. However, because of the current coronavirus situation, Sheeran and Seaborn haven’t exactly been out much, which makes news like this easier to contain. They do say these things come in threes though, and with Katy Perry and Lea Michele both welcoming babes over the past week, news of Sheeran’s daughter is sure to satiate superstitious fans everywhere.Sheeran, who recently opened up about fame and the toll it has taken on his mental health, has been on a social media break since last December. The summer leading up to that announcement he released his fourth studio album, No.6 Collaborations Project (aka No.6), a 15-track album on which he shared the spotlight with artists like Justin Bieber, Cardi B, Camila Cabello, Eminem, 50 Cent, Bruno Mars and Chance the Rapper.Following mixed reviews from critics, Sheeran announced that he wanted to take some time to breathe, travel and write, but as it turns out he was also prepping for one of his biggest life changes yet. And, according to a previous interview in which the notoriously private artist first revealed that he and Seaborn were even married, adding to his family is definitely a life change that he’s ready to embrace full-on."Something has to give," he said during an interview with radio host Charlamagne Tha God last summer. "I'm starting a life with Cherry and I can't spend the next 20 years on the road. Kids would be the different thing. I wouldn't mind sacrificing for them. If someone told me you can't tour again for the next ten years if you have kids that is fine, because that is what I have signed up for. I've already achieved more than I thought I would, so now I’m just trying to have fun."Here’s hoping little Lyra inspires some new music from the four-time Grammy winner in the future, but until then we hope he and his new fam are enjoying some much deserved quiet time.[video_embed id='2003275']Before you go: Ed Sheeran opens up about addiction in rare interview[/video_embed]
