If COVID-19 can knock The Rock, this does not bode well for the rest of humanity. On Wednesday, actor Dwayne Johnson revealed that he, along with wife Lauren Hashian and their daughters Jasmine, 4, and Tiana, 2, all tested positive for COVID-19. The family of four are now recovering and are no longer contagious, but Johnson is hoping others learn from his experience and remain vigilant while protecting themselves and their loved ones."I could tell you that this has been one of the most challenging and difficult things we have ever had to endure as a family, and for me personally too as well, and I've gone through some doozies in the past," said Johnson in the 11-minute video he uploaded to Instagram on September 2. "Testing positive for COVID-19 is much different than overcoming nasty injuries, or being evicted, or even being broke, which I have been more than a few times," continued Johnson, who added that it was "a real kick in the gut" to not be able to protect his family from the deadly disease. "But I am happy to tell you guys that we as a family are good,” said Johnson. “We're on the other end of it, we're on the other side. We're no longer contagious, and we are, thank God, we are healthy."The actor said that he was thankful his two youngest daughters only had mild symptoms. "So for our babies, Jazzy and Tia, they had a little sore throat the first couple of days, but other than that, they bounced back, and it's been life as normal, happy babies running around and playing," he said. Johnson did not elaborate on the symptoms suffered by the 48-year-old actor or his 35-year-old wife, but he did imply that their experience with the virus was much more severe.Johnson said that although his family has been strict with physical distancing since quarantine began, they did invite close family friends to their house a few weeks ago, which is how they contracted the virus. Johnson cautioned his followers about expanding their bubble and suggested that friends and family be tested before being allowed in other people’s homes. "If you guys are having family and friends over to your house, you know them, you trust them. They can be quarantining just like you guys. You still never know. You never know," said Johnson.
The Jumanji star and fitness fanatic also recommended his followers implement more healthy practices into their diet, including taking vitamins and increasing their intake of nutritious food. "Don't let your guard down, boosts your immunity with antioxidants, vitamins, things of that nature," said Johnson. “If your immune system is strong, if it’s not compromised, then you have a shot,” added the actor. “Stack the deck in your favour.”Johnson also addressed wearing a mask in public and used his platform to push back against the notion that wearing a mask is political. "This baffles me that some people out there, including some politicians, will take this idea of wearing mask and make it a political agenda of a political agenda, politicizing. It has nothing to do in politics,” said Johnson. The actor also talked about his mother, Ata Johnson, who suffers from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD, a disease that affects the lungs and causes breathing difficulties. "She has COPD too as well, that never goes away, but she wears a mask every day because it's the best thing for her health and her safety," said Johnson.Johnson ended his message to his 196 million followers with a plea to continue practising physical distancing and proper hygiene to help slow the spread of COVID-19. "So wear your masks. I'm not a politician. I am a man though, who cares about my family deeply and will do everything I can to protect them. But I'm also a man who cares about all of you guys. I don't care what political party you're affiliated with. I don't care what part of the world you're from. I don't care what your skin colour is, what your job is, what your bank account says. I don't care. I do care about all of them. And I do not want you or your entire family to get COVID-19."Johnson is the latest celebrity to come forward with his experience of testing positive for COVID-19 to dispel the myth that the virus only affects the elderly or those with pre-existing health conditions. Tom Hanks, Idris Elba, Bryan Cranston, Antonio Banderas and Anna Camp have all publicly spoken about their experiences with the virus in an attempt to help spread the message that people must remain vigilant with physical distancing, hand washing and mask wearing even as COVID-19 fatigue sets in.[video_embed id='1882661']Before you go: Dwayne Johnson responded to Ben Mulroney's tweet in the best way[/video_embed]
