In 2020, we have seen some incredible reunions of former power Hollywood couples; Brad and Jen
hugging at the SAG awards and then
later acting together was the culmination of all our romantic dreams. Now it seem Drew Barrymore is taking their cue, as she reunited with her ex-husband, Canadian comedian Tom Green, by inviting him as a guest on
The Drew Barrymore Show. Admitting that they didn’t speak for 15 years after the dissolution of their 2001 marriage, the pair had nothing but praise and love for each other; so much so, Drew got a little choked up. Heck, we all did!“I have always been attracted to visionaries, comedians, and people who make me laugh. I was so attracted to my next guest, I even married him,” Drew joked as Tom joined her with his wee pup Charlie on stage (from a safe two metres apart).
The beautiful and pure conversation that followed saw Tom passing along to Drew the love and best-wishes from his parents, reminding us all that these aren’t just celebs; they’re real people with real families. “They're really happy that I’m here on the show and they're happy for you. We're all really happy for you actually, we love watching you do amazing things,” he gushed.Drew then described a very personal moment from their time together, when she was visiting Tom and his parents in Canada, and she realized for a moment true happiness. In recalling the memory, Drew’s voice cracked and she very noticeably was filled with emotion.“I've had two nights of great sleep in my life before my daughters were born. I don't know why but sleep is like, it’s just been like a weird thing for me,” she said.“I remember this night just being so content. And I was at your parents' lake house and I remember hearing all their voices upstairs and I was just by myself and I was going to sleep and I was like, ‘Yeah this is what safety and contentedness feels before you’re going to sleep,’” she continued. “And I will never forget that night and I love your parents and I really love you and I celebrate you.”[video_embed id='2038799']RELATED: Brad and Jen reunite and it gets steamy[/video_embed]Having noted that 20 years has passed since they first got together, and that they were “just kids” going through life together, Drew marvelled at how her affection for Tom hasn’t wavered. “You know, when you say 20 years, it’s sometimes it’s the blink of an eye, and sometimes you’re like, ‘Oh my God, we’ve lived so much in these last 20 years.’ You’ve had a whole life and I’ve had a whole life. It’s just really nice to come together and check in and talk about it, it just thrills me to no end. I think the world of you and I celebrate you and I always have and I always will.”Tom, who even after becoming an American citizen last year, still has The.Thickest.Canadian.Accent.Ever, thanked her for facilitating this reunion that was 15 years overdue. “I was so happy when you invited me on the show. It’s been too long, it’s nice to reconnect. We really did not talk for about 15 years I guess, and this is really the first time we’ve looked at each other face to face in 15 years.”He later added that being able to co-star with Drew in
Charlie’s Angels was such an honour because it wasn’t launched their relationship. He added a fun anecdote from their first date where they engaged in a little animal rights activism.“That was so exciting getting to do that movie with you,” he said. “And you know, we kind of sort of hit it off right away pretty much. We had a lot of laughs together. I think one of our first dates I think we went and bought lobsters because we both love animals and we both got lobsters and we released them into the ocean. That was what we decided to do.”This reunion comes on the heels of Drew’s
reunion with her Charlie’s Angels co-stars Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz on
The Drew Barrymore Show, and just a couple days after admitting on
Watch What Happens Live that
she hasn’t had much dating luck lately. Which is why, in a later segment of the interview, memories and emotions continued to run high as they recalled some of their happy memories together.
“I'm thinking about a lot of stories and things that happened you know,” Tom continued, launching into another story that happened in his parent’s Ottawa home. “I remember when we were together you had your amazing dogs Flossy and Templeton and Vivian. I remember one time, it was Christmas and you came up to Canada to my parents’ house for Christmas. I flew Flossy up to Canada for Christmas and didn't tell you.”“You were sitting on the floor of the house that I grew up in as a kid, and I opened the door and Flossy walked out and I remember you looking at Flossy and you thought, ‘oh there's a dog that looks like Flossy’ and then you realized it was Flossy! It was very cute, and so I sort of have this lifelong love of dogs now because of Flossy and Templeton and Vivian.”Later the two remembered their California home gutted by a tragic fire, which Flossy alerted them to and saved them, but in that tumultuous and trying moment, Tom still could make her laugh.“We're standing up on the top of the hill, the house is in the canyons and I'm watching the telephone poles explode and the house was a barn, wood floors, walls and ceiling, the fire went through the house and it crumbled. I was standing there in such shock ... and you leaned into my ear and you started singing the
Entertainment Tonight theme!”“The media had assembled outside in front of the house,” explained Tom, with Drew then adding, “It made me laugh in that moment, everything was so dark and scary and confusing and you lightened it up for me, you made me laugh and I will never forget that."“In the middle of this darkness came this light and it was you. We just had so many adventures,” she said. The former flames' reunion came to a close with Tom revealing, much to Drew’s shock, that throughout their entire chat he had been sipping from a custom mug made 20 years prior during their courtship that featured a picture of Drew lying in a neck brace.“I found this mug in my garage a couple of years ago and I just kind of kept it because I figured someday I might be on your TV show and it’d be fun to have a sip out of your mug,” joked Green.Okay, we’ve had Brad and Jen, Drew and Tom . . . looks like the ball’s in your court, JLo and Ben Affleck![video_embed id='2043149']Before you go: Princess Eugenie is expecting her first child[/video_embed]
