Chemistry on screen between two actors isn’t always a given, which is why fans have happily flocked to the theaters to see Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore together in three films. The longtime friends have found the elusive magical spark on the big screen together and recently teased that they are planning to reunite for a fourth time. It’s official, they want to grow old together. Our popcorn is ready to go.

On Sunday, MTV revamped their film and TV awards for a special 2020 edition that focused on the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) moments on the big and small screen from the past 40 years. Sandler and Barrymore earned their third golden popcorn statue with the special GOAT award for Dynamic Duo.

Sandler and Barrymore first appeared together in 1998 in the sweet romantic comedy The Wedding Singer. As Barrymore noted during the duo’s acceptance speech on Sunday night, the pair have released one film every decade since, reuniting in 2004 for 50 First Dates and in 2014 for Blended.

"Drew, it's 2020 so you know what that means..." said Sandler, who appeared virtually with Barrymore to accept their latest award. "Everything sucks?” responded Barrymore. "Yeah, that's true, but also, it's a new decade so we get to make another movie together," said Sandler. Barrymore said that she was in but wanted to make sure the pair had a great script first a.k.a. more Wedding Singer, less Blended. "Right, well let's wait until we find something amazing,” said Barrymore. “We do have 10 years."

Sunday’s Dynamic Duo award marked the third time MTV has gifted the pair with a golden popcorn statue. The pair first won Best Kiss in 1998 for The Wedding Singer and took home Best On-Screen Duo in 2004 for 50 First Dates.

Barrymore and Sandler recently reunited on-screen for the premiere of Barrymore’s new daytime talk show. The Drew Barrymore Show launched in September and included a reunion with the actor's Charlie’s Angels cast mates, including Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz. Barrymore and Sandler also appeared together in a skit that brought back their 50 First Dates characters, Lucy and Henry. The pair spoofed the ending of their film and updated it for 2020, which TBH we would love to wake up every morning and not remember. Sandler ended the skit with a sweet tribute to his longtime friend. “You are going to make people so happy every day, every time they see you,” said Sandler of Barrymore’s new role as a talk show host. “You are magic. The whole world feels it and I’m so lucky that I know you so well.”

Blended was one of Barrymore’s last film roles, with the former child star focusing more on TV and producing in recent years. Prior to entering the daytime talk show arena, Barrymore had an impressive run on Netflix’s Santa Clarita Diet, which ended in 2019. Barrymore is set to reunite with her Fever Pitch costar Jimmy Fallon for the upcoming comedy The Stand In, which sees Barrymore playing two roles as a comedian and her ambitious stand-in. The film is set to be released later this week.

As for Sandler, he has continued to split his time between goofball comedies like Hubie Halloween and critically acclaimed dramas, including 2019’s Uncut Gems. Maybe a drama is in store for the next Sandler/Barrymore mash up? Honestly, we’ll watch anything with these two.
