The ongoing divorce proceedings between Dr. Dre and his estranged wife Nicole Young are getting costly. According to new documents that have been filed in court, Young is seeking nearly $2 million a month in temporary spousal support, along with an extra $5 million in legal fees.
TMZ first reported the news that Young is seeking a cool $1,936,399 per month for now, after
filing for divorce from the rapper and producer at the end of June. But in a twist Dre’s lawyers filed a response that says there is a prenuptial agreement in place, despite previous reports claiming otherwise. According to the court documents Young claims she was forced to sign a prenup shortly before the wedding, but two or three years into the marriage Dre (real name Andre Romelle Young) tore it—and all copies of it—up."Before our wedding date, Andre demanded that I sign a premarital agreement that 16 of his lawyers had drafted," Young said in the filing. "Andre, at the time, was a well-known producer and rapper in the music industry, but he had not reached anywhere near the pinnacle of his music, entertainment and business career that he achieved during our marriage. He told me that I must sign a premarital agreement or he would not marry me," she continued.Later, she says he "acknowledged to me that he felt ashamed he had pressured me into signing a premarital agreement and he tore up multiple copies of the agreement in front of me… Since the day he tore up the agreements we both understood that there was no premarital agreement and that it was null and void," she added. In the filings Young claims that her ex is worth about a billion dollars, but
Forbes currently
estimates his net worth around $800 million. The publication also notes that he is the
highest-earning artist of the decade, just ahead of performers like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé. According to
Forbes Dre declared himself to be a billionaire following the $3 billion sale of his Beats by Dr. Dre headphone line to Apple in 2014. However the producer only owned an estimated 20-25 per cent of the company before the sale, and with $295 million of the sale set aside to cover debt payments, Dre walked away with a little over $500 million. Add in expenses like a $40 million home in Los Angeles and some sizable charity donations, and the publication notes that his spending has also affected his official billionaire status.Dre and Young wed in May 1996 and were married for 24 years before filing for divorce this summer over irreconcilable differences. The pair share two adult children together, Truice, 23, and Truly, 19, and Young is also the stepmother to Dre’s four now-adult kids from previous relationships. Following the divorce filing it was reported that Young worked as an attorney, but
according to Heavy there are no records of her practicing law in California and she is not listed on the State Bar of California’s website. Before her marriage to Dre, Young was married to NBA player Sedale Threatt in 1992. Their relationship lasted about three years; according to
Us Weekly Dre
wrote a romantic letter to Young during that time in order to win her over.[video_embed id='2021405']BEFORE YOU GO: Woman films creepy doll moving on its own[/video_embed]
