People who were social distancing themselves over the weekend may have been experiencing a bit of cabin fever, which made Donald Glover’s surprise release of a new album on March 15 a welcome distraction for fans of the artist formerly known as Childish Gambino. Then, just as suddenly, he took it down.Donald Glover Presents was a 12-song LP that includes the previously released tracks “Feels Like Summer,” “Algorythm,” and “Warlord,” which the performer graced audiences with at Coachella last year. The entire thing was streaming on a loop on his website and featured performers like Ariana Grande, SZA, 21 Savage, and his son. Meanwhile a very mysterious text-submission box with an unknown purpose and artwork showing a large crowd apparently rioting was on display. Now, the website is just a blank page with the words “Donald Glover Presents” dead in the background.[video_embed id='1609873']RELATED: Donald Glover rocks the bleached beard trend[/video_embed]Before that though, Glover’s management confirmed that the album was legit to NME. It marked the first time the performer released music under his real name and not his Childish Gambino alter-ego, which he ditched in 2017 after three studio albums. According to the publication some fans believe the text box was for suggestions on what to name the new album. Perhaps Glover changed his mind and thought the art wasn’t quite the message he wanted to send given the current state of the world? Or maybe he had even more to say. After all, as Childish Gambino, Glover has certainly been known to take a strong and sometimes controversial stance on important issues. At this point though, fans can only speculate since he’s been frustratingly quiet on social media and elsewhere.Whatever the reason, fans are definitely jazzed for more. They flocked to Twitter following the album’s release to sing praises and spread the word. And some, thankfully, also shared tracks themselves, which is now the only way to hear the new songs. There’s no word on when Glover will officially release new music, but if this weekend’s experiment was any indication fans will probably immediately snatch it up when it is available. In the meantime fans can look forward to more of Glover’s Emmy-nominated TV series, Atlanta, which was renewed for two more seasons last summer. Fortunately, unlike the man’s music, fans know when they can expect new episodes to drop; unfortunately that won’t be until 2021. Probably because the guys is busy with a zillion other things… Like teasing people with new music.Until then everyone will just have to invoke that old adage, good things come to those who wait.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Sleeping puppy has an adorable reaction to getting scratched[/video_embed]
