The Great Lockdown of 2020 has led us all down some interesting and unexpected paths. More than a few of us have found ourselves doing the same jigsaw puzzle over and over (and over) again. Others are cultivating their own ever-expanding sourdough starter. And one or two of us have even performed a casual medical procedure. On ourselves. With absolutely zero previous medical training. That’s what Dax Shepard got up to this past Saturday, anyway. And, because she is an utter treasure (also: Shepard’s wife), Kristen Bell was kind enough to film it so that every one of us could enjoy and/or squeam over the experience together (while remaining a safe two metres apart). With no explanation about how he injured his arm in the first place, Bell posted footage to Instagram over the weekend showing Shepard on a call with his doctor. The actor and Armchair Expert podcast host (has he taken that title a little too seriously?) didn’t seem to be asking his doc for advice so much as he was telling him what he was going to do to his hand. Shepard informed the medical professional that he intended to pull an inches-long metal pin out of his body… from what we could tell, the doctor was on the line to advise the couple what to do in case things went sideways.[video_embed id='1932850']RELATED: Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard aren't exactly getting along in isolation[/video_embed]Let’s be upfront about this: if you’re at all squeamish about surgical implements being inserted into or pulled out of the body, maybe don’t click play on the video below. It isn’t gory per se, but it’s uncomfortable in that way where we, as human beings, instinctively know that having a piece of metal in your body is not the way evolution intended things to be. If you can stomach it though, it’s worth a watch just to hear one of Bell and Shepard’s medically curious daughters shout, “Can I see the pin? Is it covered in blood?”On a scale of ‘removing a really big splinter’ to ‘learning to do your own sutures’ it’s definitely closer to the former. As Dax himself says, “There’s no blood spurting anywhere.” We promise. That said, if you find yourself in a similar situation, please consider seeking IRL medical attention. Your hand will thank you.
