Riverdale star Cole Sprouse has returned to social media after a month-long absence. He broke his radio silence on his official Instagram page, where he posted a black and white pastoral photograph from Tulum, Mexico, and cited caring for his own personal mental health as the reason for the absence.“Know I’ve been off of social media for a while,” he began the caption. “Decided to take a much needed mental health break. I’ve never been the most active user of social media, but even the minor amount I had been engaging during quarantine had become a bit too taxing. Work is slowly beginning to pick back up within a new normal.”“And as someone who has only ever really known work their entire life, I found that I’m best on a schedule. Knowing when to step away like I did in college, and when to re-engage is a fundamental skill for any young performer,” he continued. “Take your breaks. Mental and physical health always come first.”

Thinking back on Tulum. Know I’ve been off of social media for a while. Decided to take a much needed mental health break. I’ve never been the most active user of social media, but even the minor amount I had been engaging during quarantine had become a bit too taxing. Work is slowly beginning to pick back up within a new normal. And as someone who has only ever really known work their entire life, I found that I’m best on a schedule. Knowing when to step away like I did in college, and when to re-engage is a fundamental skill for any young performer. Take your breaks. Mental and physical health always come first. In time we’ll all be able to see more clearly what this pandemic actually is- a massive global trauma. The effects of which have, in no small way, been encouraged tremendously by the failings of the US. We’re in the midst of a huge election, and I encourage everyone here in the United States to deeply consider our “modern” medical health care system. I’ll be more active soon my sweet little babies~

He then used the rest of his caption to offer a critique of the way the COVID-19 global pandemic has been handled by the Trump administration, and the failings of the American health care system.“In time we’ll all be able to see more clearly what this pandemic actually is- a massive global trauma,” he wrote to his 32.7 million followers. “The effects of which have, in no small way, been encouraged tremendously by the failings of the US. We’re in the midst of a huge election, and I encourage everyone here in the United States to deeply consider our ‘modern’ medical health care system.”He signed off with a sweet, “I’ll be more active soon my sweet little babies.”Sprouse disappeared from social media in late June after Twitter accusations arose, alleging that he and his Riverdale costars Lili Reinhart, Vanessa Morgan and KJ Apa engaged in sexual misconduct. Sprouse posted a thread to his Twitter account at the time, expressing his deep distress and concern about the situation, which he called “false.” False accusations do tremendous damage to victims of actual assault. Furthermore, I would never seek to silence anybody,” he tweeted at the time, adding that the Twitter account seemed to pop up just to spread lies and then disappear again.[video_embed id='2004024']RELATED: Social media and the link to fake news[/video_embed]Reinhart also tweeted about the allegations, saying that she couldn’t imagine anything “more twisted than lying about sexual assault. It invalidates the men and women who are brave enough to come forward with the truth. This kind of lie can ruin lives and careers- and I can call it a lie because the person who made the allegations already admitted that the stories were fabricated.”US Weekly reported at the time that one of the anonymous Twitter accounts that originally posted the allegations later tweeted, “Do you see how easy it is to lie and you guys will believe it? Vanessa Morgan and Kj Apa didn’t do jack s**t. You will believe anything.” Now that Sprouse is back to social media, we are hoping he will continue with his secondary Instagram account called Camera Duels, where he tries to take a photograph of the fans attempting to take a stealth snap of him without permission. That is the Insta-content we need.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Sphynx kitten feeding time looks like a cute little alien drinking milk[/video_embed]
