Warning: the following may be triggering for some readers as it discusses pregnancy loss, medical procedures and trauma.Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have debuted matching tattoos to commemorate a heart wrenching moment of their lives. The parents honoured their late baby Jack, whom they lost in September 20 weeks into Chrissy's pregnancy. On November 1 Teigen posted a photo of herself on social media getting ready for a date night with John, joking that she has a “frowny mouth” no matter how much she smiles and laughs. Later she shared a photo of herself holding Legend’s hand, and on her wrist is the word “Jack.” There was no caption to the second photo, but fans who have been keeping up with Teigen’s public joy and sorrow knew exactly what it meant. In the comments, one fan revealed that she has been looking for the perfect tattoo to commemorate her stillborn son for the past 13 years. “Let’s help you find something you love. Maybe one s shape, a swirl of air around you,” Teigen wrote back.A few days later, the tattoo artist who was trusted to do the ink, Winter Stone, shared that he had also given Legend a matching tattoo, also on his wrist. Stone shared images of both tattoos to his Instagram, captioning the black and white photos, "My heart is with you, sending you all the love!"
This isn’t the first time Teigen has gotten a tattoo to commemorate her family. Last year she updated fans by revealing she’d had a “cool mom” piece commissioned on her forearm. It’s a long line of numbers that includes the birthdays of her parents, Legend, and her kids, Luna and Miles. Teigen also has the names of all her immediate family members inked onto her forearm, and she and Legend also have matching tattoos of their family.Shortly after fans caught wind of the new ink, Teigen revealed that some of her inner circle had come together to donate blood on behalf of her son. “I have the absolute best friends in the world. A small circle but if it were fifty times larger, I still wouldn’t feel the love I do every day,” she shared along with a photo montage of her besties giving blood. “7 bags donated for the 7 used for jack. Love you so much.” Teigen was induced on September 30 at 20 weeks after suffering from a partial placenta abruption. Although her medical teams did everything they could, Teigen lost too much fluid and it became clear that not only would Jack not survive in her body, but that her own life was also in danger. “We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” she shared at the time, along with a photo of her sobbing in the hospital. “We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.”For the next few weeks Teigen remained out of the spotlight, although John dedicated a powerful performance at the Billboard Awards to his wife. Then, in late October, Teigen opened up about her experiences in a moving essay for Medium. She specifically brought up the photos that she had John and her mother take in the moment, and addressed the criticism that some people had over her choice to share them.“I cannot express how little I care that you hate the photos,” Teigen wrote. “How little I care that it’s something you wouldn’t have done. I lived it, I chose to do it, and more than anything, these photos aren’t for anyone but the people who have lived this or are curious enough to wonder what something like this is like. These photos are only for the people who need them. The thoughts of others do not matter to me.” Following the essay even more support flew in for Teigen, including a tweet from former First Lady and U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. “Thank you, @chrissyteigen, for your bravery and grace in starting a hard conversation to help other families heal alongside yours," Clinton wrote on Twitter along with a link to the essay. “Oh my god Hillary Clinton just tweeted my essay now I have to delete the stupid videos I just posted oh my god please dont look at them Hillary Clinton,” Teigen wrote back.Since she dropped the essay Teigen has been back on social media and sharing more updates, including posts dedicated to supporting Joe Biden in the U.S. election on November 3 and some photos of her family celebrating Halloween at home. Here’s hoping she and her loved ones continue to find love and healing during this difficult time.[video_embed id='2065225']Before you go: Chrissy Teigen returns to social media after devastating loss[/video_embed]
