There are endless things in the world to be stressed and vexed about: the climate crisis, the war in Ukraine, and how it’s almost 2023 yet no one is over 2020. But now, there is at least one thing right in the world, and we can all find hope and solace in this invigorating and effervescent news.

Chris Evans is People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive. Finally, that magazine understood the assignment.

“My mom will be so happy,” the Captain America star told the outlet. “She’s proud of everything I do but this is something she can really brag about.”

Fans, naturally, are low-key obsessed. "HELLO CHRIS EVANS IS THE SEXIEST MAN ALIVE," one user tweeted. "SEXIEST MAN ALIVE CHRIS EVANS INDEED!!!" another user shared. One stan said what we’re all thinking: “This is the first thing that has made sense this whole year. Nothing else in 2022 has been sensical. Finally order.”

Yet there was a time, not too long ago when The Gray Man star was supposed to ascend the Sexiest Man throne, and a social media scandal robbed him of the delight. This was in the dark days of 2020 (figures) when Chris made the honest mistake of uploading naked pics of himself to the internet without realizing it. It could happen to anyone, but we’re not mad at him at all for this hiccup.

The pic was almost overlooked when shared with his then 5.7 million followers because it was embedded within a gallery of videos and pictures for a game of “heads up!”  Chris quickly deleted the image, but as we all know, the internet is forever, and screenshots circulated on Twitter. That’s when People Magazine pulled the plug. Michael B. Jordan nabbed the title that year ultimately.

Chris tried to use the massive attention to his, ahem, member to encourage people to vote, tweeting, “Now that I have your attention ….VOTE Nov 3rd!!!” That same year, he launched his site A Starting Point, per USA Today, where he tried to bridge the gap between democrats and republicans during the election year.

Continuing his tradition of announcing the Sexiest Man Alive, it was bestowed upon late-night king Stephen Colbert to make the triumphant announcement on his show last night. “It is with humility and gratitude that I am thrilled to announce that People magazine has decided to award me the incredible honour,” the Late Show host began to raucous applause, landing the punchline, “…Of announcing the sexiest man alive for the second year in a row!”

Chris, wearing a pageant sash, then appeared in the pre-taped clip with former 2016 Sexiest Man Dwayne ‘The Rock Johnson, where the latter prodded Chris with, “Say something sexy.”

“Go vote tomorrow,” Chris deadpans. This is why we love him and support his reign this year.

Later in the sketch, Chris referred to the Red Notice star as a "former Sexiest Man Alive,” to which The Rock humbly reminded Chris he's the sexiest man "for life."
