Have you heard the one where Captain America and Cinderella walked into a bar? No punchline required, because that’s precisely what happened over the weekend in London when Chris Evans and Lily James supposedly hung out together at a private members’ club and then split a taxi back to Evans’ hotel room.
The Daily Mail obtained exclusive photos of the pair on what appeared to be a date, as they partied “into the early morning” last Saturday at Mark’s Club in Mayfair before riding back to The Corinthia, where Evans had a room (apparently without masks on?). The pair didn’t enter the hotel together, mind you. According to the publication, Evans went through the main entrance and Lily went around to another door at the back, where she was eventually let in by staff.Of course if this romance is actually a romance (reps for the couple hadn’t commented at time of press), it’s still very much in the early stages. Last December James split from
The Crown star Matt Smith, whom she had dated for five years. In May, a source revealed the couple had
decided to try and fix things, so the fact that the
Downton Abbey star has been spotted with Evans is undoubtedly causing turmoil for the Smith fans out there hoping for a reconciliation.“Matt and Lily's break-up was mostly because their hectic schedules meant they could barely see each other,”
sources told The Sun in May. “They kept the house together when they split because they were both barely around. Slate told New York Magazine before the split. “He’s really vulnerable, and he’s really straightforward. He’s like primary colours. He has beautiful, big, strong emotions, and he’s really sure of them. It’s just wonderful to be around. His heart is probably golden-coloured, if you could paint it.”According to
Us Weekly Evans has been slowly getting back into the dating game lately, and he started dipping his toes in the waters as early as last January. “[He’s] dating different women and is having fun,” but isn’t “exclusive with anyone,”
sources revealed to the publication. Evans opened up about his own dating life in an interview that same year with
The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m the one who fears being enveloped,”
he said. “I was always a really autonomous guy my whole life. Camping by myself is one of my favourite things. I really like to be with someone who also has their own thing to do as well, you know? … If I’m with someone who just kind of adopts my life, that can feel a bit suffocating.”Still, that doesn’t mean Evans hasn’t been looking for the one. In a subsequent interview with
Men’s Journal, the
Knives Out star revealed that he does want to get married and start a family. “I really want kids. Yeah, I do. I like pretty pedestrian, domestic things. I want a wife, I want kids,”
he said. “I like ceremony. I want to carve pumpkins and decorate Christmas trees and s--- like that.”Obviously, it’s too early to tell whether Evans and James will be decorating trees and carving pumpkins together, but they do follow each other on Instagram.
