2020 has been a wild ride so far, and we’re only at the half-way mark. Adding to the ever-growing list of things "that would never actually happen, right?" was Kanye West’s presidential bid announced on Twitter last week. And although we still aren’t totally sure if Yeezy for POTUS will become a legitimate campaign, it seems the Kanye has the support of Chance The Rapper. Monday, Chance took to Twitter to retweet Kanye’s latest song with the message, “And yall out here tryna convince me to vote for Biden. Smfh.” Understandably, this sent Twitter users into a bit of a frenzy, which inspired the rapper to open up the conversation with a series of tweets about his potentially polarizing stance on Kanye’s #2020VISION. “Are u more pro Biden or anti Ye and why?”, he wrote. “I get that you’ll want to reply that you’re just tryna “get Trump out” but in this hypothetical scenario where you’re replacing Trump, can someone explain why Joe Biden would be better??” Replying to his question, one user asked Chance to give “one thing he’s actively looking to improve that he can only do as president,” to which the rapper replied, “Reparations. Prison Abolition. Universal Basic Housing. Education Reform. Universal Basic Income. There’s more but ion work for folks so I'll let him do his job. Just saying we been doing this thing the same way for a long time. Can a Black man get a chance" Users were also quick to note that Kanye was incredibly vocal about his support for Trump for a long time, and that his formerly publicized opinions and associations should ‘not be separated’ from his political views now. Beyond his allegiance with the current POTUS, there has also been a great deal of online discussion surrounding his stance on slavery, abortion, LGBTQ+ rights, sexual abuse, and vaccinations. In an interview with Forbes last week, Kanye expanded on his (still hypothetical?) platform, sharing that he is “anti-abortion, sceptical about a COVID-19 vaccine and keen to return “fear and love of God” to education.” He also said he would end police brutality, appoint Elon Musk to run space program, and would run under the ‘Birthday party’ because “when we win it’s everybody’s birthday." After some back and forth discussion with fans on Twitter, Chance — who, for the record, is a Kanye protege — concluded, “I finally got the answer now. I understand. Yall trust Biden more than yall trust Ye. I think I understand why, I just don’t feel the same way.” Of course, Twitter isn’t done talking about this quite yet, and the rapper quickly became a trending topic on the platform. Addressing the sudden attention, he wrote, “I didn't plan on trending today, but I would like take this opportunity to say: with all these apologies and accountabilities going around the city of Chicago and the Chicago Police Dept should finally admit to and denounce the assassination of Fred Hampton.” [video_embed id='1994307']BEFORE YOU GO: Kid Cudi opens up about anxiety.[/video_embed]
