The internet may have picked a clear winner (or is that loser?) in this week’s Battle of the Chrises, but there’s a pretty large contingent of celebrities out there who are having none of it. And they’re letting it be known. To backtrack, earlier this week Warrior Nun writer Amy Berg posted a collage of the four famous Chrises (Chris Pine, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pratt and Chris Evans) on social media and captioned it, “One has to go.” Before long the topic was trending, and Twitter more or less decided that Pratt was the weakest link for a variety of reasons, including his supposed religious and political views, as well as his acting. Naturally it seems like the entire thing hurt the actor’s feelings (because of course it did), and now his celebrity friends are coming to his defense.Leading the charge was Pratt’s wife Katherine Schwarzenegger, who responded to a now-deleted post on E! News in which the publication asked followers on social media to weigh in with their own thoughts on the Worst Hollywood Chris. “Is this really what we need?" she responded. “There’s so much going on in the world and people are struggling in so many ways," she continued. “Being mean is so yesterday. There’s enough room to love all these guys. Love is what we all need not meanness and bullying. Let’s try that.”She wasn’t the only “family” member speaking up on behalf of the 41-year-old. Pratt’s Avengers family also assembled to throw the Guardians of the Galaxy star some love, and to defend his character to the haters out there. “Chris Pratt… A real Christian who lives by principle, has never demonstrated anything but positivity and gratitude… AND he just married into a family that makes space for civil discourse and (just plain fact) INSISTS on service as the highest value,” wrote Robert Downey Jr. on Instagram.
“You all, @prattprattpratt is as solid a man there is,” added Mark Ruffalo on Twitter. “I know him personally, and instead of casting aspersions, look at how he lives his life.” “You got this @prattprattpratt,” added the actor’s Guardians of the Galaxy co-star Zoe Saldana. “Your family, friends, colleagues & everyone who’s ever crossed paths with you knows your heart and your worth!” Even Guardians director James Gunn stepped in to defend his star. “Many actors are nice only to people in power,” Gunn also wrote in a follow-up tweet to a comment. “What matters to me is how people treat the crew members, and wait staff, and fans. And Chris Pratt is always incredibly kind to these people, which is one of the reasons I love him.”The thing is, Iron Man and Hulk stepping in to try and save Star-Lord may have actually just stoked the cancellation fires further. Because as many were quick to point out, other female MCU stars and actors of colour have also faced online harassment, and no one seemed to stick up for them… In other words, perhaps it’s time for the Avengers to assemble for some of their other co-stars too, and not just for a guy whose feelings were hurt because of an insensitive poll?
