Vogue came knocking on Cardi B’s door with 73 questions, and the rap superstar did not disappoint. As opposed to the usual celeb mansion setting, the conversation actually took place in a modest New York City apartment belonging to Cardi’s grandmother. “Welcome to the hood!” Cardi smiled, leading the interviewer into a cozy living room. Holding her sleeping daughter, Kulture, in her arms, Cardi admitted that her grandma’s home offered both nostalgia and distraction from the chaos of fame.
Motherhood was the first topic at hand, which seemed appropriate as Kulture snoozed away in her arms. Asked about the biggest lesson she’s learned from her daughter, Cardi B was every mom and replied, “You’re never ready on time.” When the interviewer went on to ask about the biggest lesson she’d like to teach her daughter, Cardi got a bit more sentimental. “Don’t worry what people say, and dream big and follow it.”

Fashion queens + and an Offset call-in

Moving on to fashion, Cardi was happy to list a few of her style icons. “Lady Gaga, Missy Elliott, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna.” She cited her Hermes bag (a gift from husband Offset) as the most extravagant item in her closet but couldn’t pick a favourite designer, stating that she loves them all. On her personal style, she waved a dramatically manicured hand and confirmed that her go-to nail design is, “long...always long!” Her style may be bold, but Cardi wishes that people were less fixated on another notable, um, asset. “I hate when people ask me questions about my butt! People are so obsessed with knowing about the enhanced butt process that it’s like, Lord…”Cardi also revealed that she likes to be asked about news and trending topics because she loves to debate. The chat soon veered to her relationship with Offset, who she happily Facetimed upon request. After some shockingly normal married-people banter and a lot of heavy tongue-wagging from Cardi, they said goodbye. “His best asset is, everything,” Cardi told Vogue with a giggle, adding some x-rated comments about their sex life in a whisper. Ahhh, romance isn’t dead!

Cardi gets political

When the conversation led from music to feminism and politics, Cardi became serious. Talking about President Trump, she called for his impeachment and asked, “If you don’t love every American citizen, why become president?” She went on to talk about systemic injustice and racism, noting that her childhood experiences shaped a lot of her political views. Cardi confirmed that she supports Bernie Sanders, complimenting his track record and calling him a “natural humanitarian.” We’re not sure if it’s the endorsement Bernie was looking for but maybe it’s the endorsement he needs.
