Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden's secret to managing their newborn? Sleeping in shifts

Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden have been laying super low since their daughter Raddix Madden (say it with us) came into their lives earlier this year, but yesterday Cam popped up on Instagram Live for a makeup chat with her own personal MUA and longtime BFF, Gucci Westman. And while there was talk of red lips and bronzed cheekbones and epic escapades from years gone by, the conversation quickly turned to babies and the secret behind two brand-new parents both getting a good night’s sleep (COVID nightmares aside).“Benji wants to go to bed late, and I like to go to bed early… that works so well for us as parents. I can go to bed a few hours early and he does those later feeds with her,” Diaz said, “[Then] I can wake up early and be with her in the morning and he can sleep.” Sleeping in shifts? The idea is nothing short of brilliant — to the degree that you might want to add a query about sleep habits to your list of first date questions.[video_embed id='1939835']RELATED: Cameron Diaz opens up about life as a new mom[/video_embed]The sleep strategy, says Cameron, leaves her feeling energized (aka like her regular self). “I literally get up and don’t stop moving until I lay my head down on the pillow,” she said. “I’m so used to going, going, going. My engine starts and I don’t idle through the day.”Naturally, the two women talked about the difficulties of self-isolating, especially during a time when new parents typically rely on their communities of family and friends for support. “None of us know what’s going to happen, when this is going to end [or] what the new start is,” she said. “I’ve thought of a million things: ‘Are we going to move away? Where do we raise our child?’ All those things you think about… The best thing to do is to stay in the moment, just take care.”The Instagram chat was a promotion for Westman’s YouTube series ‘Makeup and Friends’ in which the MUA hangs out at the houses of her famous pals to talk makeup and celebrity shenanigans with her roster of recognizable clients.
