Americans have been submitting early ballots for the upcoming presidential election in record-breaking numbers, and celebrities have been using their social media platforms to encourage even more people to get in on the action. Two famous names that cast their ballots this week, and encouraged others to do the same, are Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. The couple celebrated their decision to vote early on Instagram on Thursday, and while the focus should have been on Reynolds casting his first vote as an American citizen, the conversation quickly turned to Lively’s shoes… which were not really there. Serena Van Der Woodsen would never.Lively and Canadian-born Reynolds, who holds dual passports, both shared their smiling post-vote pictures. The couple made every virgin voting joke in the book, with Lively posting first. “It was Ryan’s first time. He was understandably scared. It all happened so fast. Like, REALLY fast,” wrote Lively next to a picture of the couple looking giddy while holding their mail-in ballots. “He wept. I pretended to weep. Then he called all his friend. #voteearly.”
Seems like a totally normal picture, right? It would, except that Reynolds posted his own shot a few seconds later, and something was definitely missing (but not the virginity puns — they really went all the way with that theme). “This is my first time voting in America,” wrote Reynolds. “I’d like to thank my wife Blake for making my first time so gentle and loving. It was super scary at first, then exciting and now I’m a little tired. But proud. #VoteEarly”
The pictures look virtually the same, but Twitter users soon noticed that Lively was barefoot in Reynold’s picture, but wearing shoes in her own. The Gossip Girl actor even tagged Louboutin in her shot. Did she…? Yes, she did Photoshop a pair of heels on her feet. Lively likely would have gotten away with her last-minute fashion fix if her husband hadn’t posted an unedited shot of the pair together. Voting and fashion foul.Lively replied to the only voting controversy this year that has been entertaining and admitted that, yes, she did doodle herself a cute pair of strappy heels, because she wasn’t about to let an opportunity to get dressed up and leave the house be ruined by a bad pair of shoes.“Louboutin, are you hiring? Barefoot iPhone doodler with vast experience avail,” wrote Lively in her Instagram Stories. “Can you tell I was so happy to get outta a onesie and vote. Sure it was an absentee drop off ballot with a mask covering my look. But dammit I exercised my right to vote. And to not wear shoes that ruined my outfit.” Excuse us while we mentally calculate how much money we can save by posting selfies with expensive shoes doodled into the picture. This is brilliant.[video_embed id='2008233']Before you go: Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively apologize for plantation wedding[/video_embed]
