Armie Hammer has been working construction since splitting with his wife

Typically, we’re accustomed to the “model-turned-actor” or “actor-turned-director” Hollywood career trajectory so when we found out that actor Armie Hammer had turned… construction worker, we were a bit thrown. Was it for a role? Did he lose a bet? Because one thing’s certain: manual labour in the dead of summer isn’t a vocation one casually takes on. There’s no air conditioning, no trailer with your name on it, and you most definitely have to fetch your own oat milk iced latte. And yet, according to one of Hammer’s most recent Instagram posts, the Call Me By Your Name star has been toiling away in the construction business these past few months alongside his BFF Ashton (not Kutcher).Chambers filed the papers for the couple’s divorce back in July, requesting sole physical (but joint legal) custody of their two young children. A peek at her own Instagram account reveals that she and the kids have settled temporarily in the Cayman Islands — possibly as a strategy for avoiding the pandemic chaos in the U.S. But Hammer is in California, where he spent his August 28th birthday hiking in Joshua Tree with Ashton, his construction colleague and close pal. He posted this photo to commemorate the occasion — and to shock us with news about what he’s been up to.

This one of my best friends, Ashton. For the last 2 months or so I have lived with Ashton, worked construction with Ashton, and hiked with Ashton every day. He has been such a good friend (and boss) and has been the most supportive friend anyone could ever ask for. Today might be my birthday, but I just wanna say thank you to @ashtonramsey and say I love you dude.

It has been an incredible journey, but together, we’ve decided to turn the page and move on from our marriage,” wrote Hammer in a statement he posted to the platform. “As we enter into this new chapter, our children and relationship as co-parents and dear friends will remain our priority. We understand this news lends itself to public dialogue, but in the interest of our children and our family, we’re asking for privacy, compassion and love during this time.”It was recently announced that the Los Angeles native had signed on to star in director Luca Guadagnino’s follow-up to Call Me By Your Name, reuniting with co-star Timothée Chalamet for a sequel tentatively titled Find Me. It’s extremely unlikely that Hammer is using his construction gig to bulk up for the role. Guadagnino is no Marvel Universe filmmaker. His other upcoming project is a new take on the Watergate scandal in which he’ll star opposite Julia Roberts (again, not exactly a beefcake kind of role).
