Anderson Cooper surprised fans last month when he announced the birth of his son Wyatt. The reporter shared his exciting news on social media on April 30, revealing that he was now the proud parent of Wyatt Morgan Cooper, who was born via surrogate on April 27. The single journalist appeared on The Howard Stern Show on Tuesday and revealed that although he’s no longer romantically involved with ex-boyfriend Benjamin Maisani, the pair plan on co-parenting Wyatt."I don't really have a family, and so my friends become my family," Cooper said. "This is somebody I was involved with for 10 years, he's a great guy. We didn't work out as a couple, but when I was a little kid, it was just my mom and my brother, but it was my mom — she was not the most parental person and I wish some adult after my dad died had stepped in and just been like, 'You know what, I'll take you to a ball game,’ Or, 'Let's go out to lunch every now and then, and let's just talk.’" said Cooper.[video_embed id='-1']RELATED: Kit Harington is ready for fatherhood[/video_embed]“You know, no one ever did that and so I thought, well if something happens to me or even if something doesn't happen to me, if more people love my son and are in his life, I'm all for that. You know, my ex is a great guy, and I think it's good to have two parents if you can."Cooper's father passed away when the journalist was a child, a loss he touched on in Wyatt’s birth announcement. “He [Wyatt] is named after my father, who died when I was ten. I hope I can be as good a dad as he was.”Cooper and Maisani, a French nightclub owner, dated for a decade before splitting in 2018. Cooper told Stern that Maisani will go by Papa and he’ll be dad, noting that his ex is already speaking French to baby Wyatt. "He could be turning the kid against me, I don't know,” joked Cooper.
While speaking to Stern, Cooper also revealed that in addition to recently becoming a new parent, he’s also a new coffee drinker. Coincidence? We think not. Sure, you can parent without the use of coffee, but why would you? “Other than seeing my son in the morning, it’s the main thing I look forward to,” said Cooper of his first cup of coffee for the day, adding “I don’t like the taste of it, but I just like what it does to my brain. It snaps it into focus,” said Cooper. Exactly. The reporter added that he began drinking coffee recently while at work in the CNN offices and found himself in the communal kitchen attempting to use the automated coffee machine. After 10 minutes of trying to remove the top of a coffee pod, Cooper realized that you simply place it in the machine and hit the ‘on’ switch. “This machine is one of the greatest inventions ever made.” Again, exactly.
