Before the child is born or arrives in a family, parents have big decisions to make. Cloth diapers or disposable? Co-sleep or crib-only? Find out the gender or paint the nursery yellow? Then there’s the larger issues, like religious upbringing, guardianship, medical decisions, and possibly the most life-forming choice of all – what to name the child. For Amy Schumer and husband Chris Fischer, they’ve now decided on a do-over for their son’s name. It rhymes with vulva! Just kidding, but close.Schumer had already side-stepped a major name guffaw when she married her professional chef husband in 2018, keeping her maiden name instead of becoming Amy Fischer aka the Long Island Lolita. The Joey Buttafuoco jokes would have given the standup enough material for at least two specials, but in the long run it probably wasn’t worth the paperwork. After Schumer and Fischer welcomed their son Gene in May 2019, the couple announced they had named the child after Schumer’s close friend and comedian Dave Attell, making their son Gene Attell Fischer. Sounds like a great name, right? Now say Gene Attell quickly. Gene Attell. GeneAttell. Genital. Genital Fischer. Genital Fissure. Oh yeah, on second thought, now we can hear it.Schumer appeared on her podcast Amy Schumer Presents: 3 Girls, 1 Keith this week and confirmed that after a few months, the new parents finally got a full night’s sleep and realized their mistake. “So, do you guys know that Gene, our baby's name is officially changed?" Schumer said to her listeners. Around the 18-minute mark, Schumer revealed the couple’s decision to legally make their son’s name less open to future bullying "It's now Gene David Fischer. It was Gene Attell Fischer, but we realized that we by accident named our son, ‘genital.'"

The comedian said that her friend and Trainwreck co-star Dave Attell was honoured to have the baby named after him, which is still true. “His middle name is now David, which is after Attell, and my dad’s middle name is David,” said Schumer, noting that the new name gives the parents the chance to honour two men. Plus, the closest thing Gene David can turn into on the playground is Geena Davis and everyone loves A League of Their Own.Schumer and Fischer made light of the name change on social media, posting a straight-faced selfie on Tuesday and captioning the pic “Oh, like you never named your kid Genital fissure!!!!!!!”

The couple may have another chance at the name game in the future. Schumer has been open about the pair’s journey of freezing her embryos and beginning IVF treatments. Schumer will also be releasing a documentary on HBO Max later this year, which chronicles the writing and producing of her 2019 Netflix standup special Growing, which she filmed while pregnant with Gene and suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, an extreme form of morning sickness.Appearing on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live on Tuesday night, Schumer talked about the documentary, saying “What I’m most excited about is really showing how difficult pregnancy can be, because I feel like women are made to downplay it and not complain very much. I also thought it would be cool to show how you create a comedy special and I think people are interested in that,” said Schumer. Expecting Amy is expected to arrive on the new streaming service when HBO Max launches later this year.[video_embed id='1938583']RELATED: Selena Gomez opens up to Amy Schumer about hitting rock bottom to write ‘Rare’ songs[/video_embed]
