It’s been a bit of a whirlwind month for Amanda Bynes, to say the least. First the former
She’s the Man star opened up about her sobriety to her fans on social media, then she became engaged to a man she met in AA, and then her latest attempts to break free from her mother’s
conservatorship became a news item when she spoke about it on Instagram. And now topping off the emotional month, it seems as though she’s single again after a judge ordered her to enter into a psychiatric facility.
The Blast reports that this is likely what precipitated the end of her engagement to former fiancé, Paul Michael, who called things off three weeks after getting engaged on Valentine’s Day. “We did [split up],” Michael
confirmed to In Touch after Bynes took down all of
their photos together on Instagram. “I love her though, she’s my friend.” Bynes allegedly did not show up to check into the facility over the weekend and next steps for her family and herself are unclear at this point.[video_embed id='1751708']BEFORE YOU GO: These emotionally devastating celebrity breakups still haunt us[/video_embed]The pair made headlines for their quick engagement in February when it was revealed they’d only been together about three months. Were they to actually try and get hitched though, Bynes’s mother, Lynn Organ, would have to approve of it under the conservatorship. From the sounds of things, that might have been an issue. “Lynn feels Amanda isn’t in any capacity to make any decisions about her care or treatment,”
a source told Us Magazine a few days after the engagement. “Lynn requests that Amanda remain in a controlled environment.”Bynes hasn’t spoken out about the split, but she has remained active on Instagram. Last week she shared a
photo of herself at IKEA (aka “Disneyland for adults”), along with a photo to celebrate being sober for a year and two months. Meanwhile, comments on all of her posts have been disabled, probably to block out the haters.
It's been a decade since Bynes last acted, when she starred alongside Emma Stone in the 2010 coming-of-age flick
Easy A. Since then Bynes quit acting and has struggled to maintain her sobriety; she had a relapse shortly after opening up in a
2018 interview with Paper Magazine, proving to herself that she does better out of the spotlight. Since then she’s also graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising.“Now I’ve remained sober for over a year — same with Paul — and I just want to let you know that I love you guys and I’m so happy now,” Bynes said in a now-deleted post about her whirlwind romance. “I feel like I got what’s mine, and that is Paul.”“Amanda’s parents are fully aware of her engagement and at this point are not approving Amanda to legally get married under the conservatorship,”
another source told E! News on February 21.Organ was given a conservatorship over Bynes and her $5 million estate back in 2014 after the actress was hospitalized on a psychiatric hold the year before. That conservatorship is scheduled to come up for review in August. Until then, fans can only hope that Bynes continues taking these positive steps in her mental health journey. Shopping for IKEA furniture and celebrating small milestones in her sobriety certainly seems like a great start.[video_embed id='1916533']BEFORE YOU GO: The Sussexes had the best reaction to a surprise military proposal[/video_embed]
