Americans everywhere were digging into turkey and baking up quarantine pies on U.S. Thanksgiving this week, but it was yet another gem of a posthumous message from Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek that had people on both sides of the border feeling extra thankful. On November 26, as many hopped online to scrounge up some Black Friday deals or unwind after tucking into a giant feast, the popular game show shared Trebek’s sage words of thanks, essentially throwing a little water onto this dumpster fire of a year for tired scrollers. “Happy Thanksgiving, ladies and gentleman,” he said in the video. “You know, in spite of what America and the rest of the world is experiencing right now, there are many reasons to be thankful. There are more and more people extending helpful hands to do a kindness to their neighbours, and that’s a good thing.”The host then wrapped his quick address with a reminder to keep hope in your heart, because hope is what is going to get us all through these difficult, isolating times. “Keep the faith,” he added. “We’re going to get through all of this and we will be a better society because of it.” His words are the calm fans needed as the world heads into the final few weeks of 2020, hoping that next year brings a coronavirus vaccination and some kind of a return to normal. So is it any wonder that, at time of press, the Twitter clip has been seen more than 1.3 million times, liked more than 27,000 times, and retweeted more than 8,000 times? a.k.a. What is, the Thanksgiving message heard around the internet, Alex. What makes the video especially touching is that it’s obvious to anyone watching what a struggle it must have been for Trebek to film those final few episodes. His voice doesn’t falter, exactly, but it also isn’t as strong as it once was. Considering the 80-year-old only had days left in his life at time of filming, fans everywhere were feeling pretty thankful for the fact that he managed to tape those final few weeks at all.Trebek passed away peacefully at his home on November 8 after an 18-month battle with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Prior to his death he had taped 35 final episodes of Jeopardy!, which were previously scheduled to wrap on Christmas day. However earlier this week when the series revealed it resumes production on November 30 with champ Ken Jennings as interim host, it also announced that Trebek’s final batch of episodes will now air the week of January 4.Meanwhile, for fans who want to relive the good old times and tuck even more Trebek gems into their back-pockets for the upcoming Christmas holiday season, Jeopardy! is airing a 10-episode tribute event during the weeks of December 21 and 28. The installments will include some of the late host’s best-ever moments, but considering he helmed the show for 37 years (and became a pop culture icon that even Will Ferrell took note of), that must have been quite the task to narrow down which ones to air.Regardless, it’s safe to say that those episodes are probably quite the memorable collection. So maybe bring the tissues.[video_embed id='2076479']BEFORE YOU GO: Baby has an adorable reaction to family's new puppy[/video_embed]
