Adele is saying “Hello” to the social media scene once again, giving fans everywhere the gift of her online presence for her 32
nd birthday. The singer took to Instagram recently to share the first picture of herself since the holidays that the Grammy winner’s 34 million followers will probably be fawning over for weeks to come.“Thank you for the birthday love,” Adele captioned a photo of herself wearing a form-fitting black minidress with puffy sleeves, while posing inside a giant ring adorned with flowers (as only Adele can). “I hope you’re all staying safe and sane during this crazy time. I’d like to thank all of our first responders and essential workers who are keeping us safe while risking their lives! You are truly our angels. 2020 okay bye thanks.”
Leave it to Adele to break her social media reprieve with a post honouring health care workers. Her fans were definitely there for it, including her celebrity fans. Chrissy Teigen spoke for many when she wrote, “I mean are you kidding me?” Rita Wilson spread the well wishes by adding, “Happy Birthday, Adele. Sending you so much love! Looking gorgeous!” and Spanish singer Leroy Sanchez perfectly responded with, “And the internet breaks in 3... 2... 1...”Some fans also wondered whether Adele’s return to the internet meant she was ready to talk about new music, but it seems as though they’ll just have to wait for now. Last February, when the “Skyfall” singer sang at her friend’s wedding, she
told the crowd they could expect the new album in September, but nothing official has been confirmed since. Considering it’s been half a decade since her last studio release, it’s understandable that people are feeling thirsty. On the plus side, it seems like many musicians are fast-tracking their tunes right now while in self-isolation, with artists like
Drake,
Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, and even
Rihanna getting their grooves on.You can certainly understand why Adele has chosen to give herself some time away from the spotlight over the past year. The singer has been through a lot on the personal front, including her
pricey divorce from Simon Konecki. She’s also been in the news a lot for losing a significant amount of weight (she told one fan she’s
lost 100 pounds), something that she’s been doing to keep healthy for her family. “For her it’s not about losing weight,” a source
told People last October. “She wants to stay healthy for her son’s sake and though it’s been challenging for her to keep a new workout routine, she is sticking with it.”Last year on her birthday, Adele also shared a message on Instagram—one that was quite different than this year’s post but kind of foreshadowing in terms of her year to come. “This is 31...thank fucking god,”
she wrote at the time. “30 tried me so hard but I’m owning it and trying my hardest to lean in to it all. No matter how long we’re here for life is constant and complicated at times. I’ve changed drastically in the last couple years and I’m still changing and that’s okay. 31 is going to be a big ol’ year and I’m going to spend it all on myself.”Now that’s how you roll… in the deep.[video_embed id='-1']RELATED: Adele is feelin’ herself in 31st birthday post[/video_embed]
