He’s not one for smart phones either.

He may be Instagram-savvy in terms of promoting his whiskey label, and sure, he stars in the very futuristic HBO series Westworld (Sundays, 9 p.m. ET, Crave), but Aaron Paul is actually years behind when it comes to technology. And it seems like he kind of prefers it that way. In fact, the former Breaking Bad star admits he hasn’t even owned a computer in roughly a decade. And as for smart phones? Yeah, he’s not really interested in them either. Before you ask how someone in this day and age (and someone with 4.3 million Instagram followers at that) can get by without fingertip technology, know that it’s not because Paul wants to be a dinosaur. Instead, he’s all about ditching devices in a bid for his mental health.[video_embed id='1832958']RELATED: Social media has made parties less fun, writer argues[/video_embed]“Honestly I feel like I've cracked a code in a way, and I cannot begin to tell you how much better I feel. I'm 100 per cent less anxious... I have an honest connection, which is what we all used to have,” Paul told The Daily Telegraph on March 15, according to the Daily Mail.“It's a blessing and a curse to have data control and data collection, but because of that, I haven't owned a computer in over 10 years,” he said, revealing that his phone of choice is a very basic Light Phone, which cannot store apps. “I’m considering going back to a flip phone, but in the meantime the Light Phone makes calls, stores 10 numbers, but there’s no camera, no texting or emailing.”Paul admitted in the interview that he still does the Instagram thing, but even when he’s away on a holiday he goes old-school and locks his phone away in the safe (like people used to do back in the day when there was no universal wi-fi everywhere). That way, he gets to focus more on the people in his life, like his wife Lauren Paul, and their one-year-old daughter Story. To be fair, that lack of constant access is probably why Paul has been able to get away with making secret Breaking Bad movies in the past, and also why he manages to stay mostly out of the tabloids. Plenty of stars have detoxed from social media to feel more centred and alert; Paul is just taking that to the next level.

Paul is fine to use what little time he does spend on social media promoting Dos Hombres, the whiskey he and his former Breaking Bad co-star Bryan Cranston created (unfortunately it’s only available in the States). He’s also all over promoting the third season of Westworld, in which he joins the cast as Caleb Nichols, a former soldier who is using a future vision of the world to work through his issues.“I'm such a fan of the show, and seeing how much control they have over the hosts in the confines of Westworld, you quickly realize that society as a whole is not that far off from how the hosts are within [the show],” Paul recently told The Hollywood Reporter. “It feels like there's a big grasp and a hold of control over society.”Just blame too many smartphones, tablets and computers. Fans can catch Paul in Westworld, Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on Crave.[video_embed id='1902355']RELATED: Is it rude to unfollow a friend on social media?[/video_embed]
