Break out the swans and start working on a tulip garden because we have a wedding to plan. The latest beloved feature that has committed to getting the gang back together is the 1991 comedy Father of the Bride. Just announced this week, several cast members will appear in an upcoming special that will stream on Friday, September 25. Please RSVP whether you want the $250 chicken or vegetarian dish. It’s been almost 30 years since screenwriter Nancy Meyers worked her magic on the retelling of the 1950s classic starring Spencer Tracy, Elizabeth Taylor, Don Taylor and Elizabeth Bennett. Meyers teased the reunion on September 10, uploading a picture of Steve Martin and Kimberly Williams, who both starred in the family film. “If he thought a wedding was a lot, how would he react to 2020? Coming soon to the phone in your hand,” wrote Meyers.

On Tuesday, Netflix confirmed the reunion with a teaser video that appears to be taken from the perspective of Martin’s character, George Banks. The video shows George opening an email from his daughter Annie (Williams), which contains her wedding photos that have finally been digitized almost three decades after her wedding. Honestly, that seems pretty much on schedule. George also opens an email from his son Matty, played by Succession actor Kieran Culkin. Matty’s email includes an invitation to a family video call this Friday. “Twenty-five years later, the Banks family returns for a very special event to benefit World Central Kitchen,” wrote Netflix.

Neither Netflix nor Myers have confirmed who will appear in Friday’s special and whether it will include a table reading of the script or the cast reminiscing about their time shooting the 1991 comedy, but judging by the teaser video, it looks as though Martin, Culkin and Williams will be involved. The film centered around Martin's George Banks reluctantly coming to terms with the upcoming marriage of his daughter Annie. Diane Keaton played Martin’s much calmer other half Nina, while B.D. Wong and Martin Short played wedding planners Howard Weinstein and Franck Eggelhoffer, who saw (George’s) money as no object. George Newbern played Annie’s fiancé Bryan MacKenzie and Eugene Levy also had a small part as a wedding singer. The cast, including Levy in a new role, reunited in 1995 for Father of the Bride II, which saw Williams’ Annie and Keaton’s Nina find out they were both pregnant at the same time.Earlier this summer, Meyers help reunite the cast of her 1998 film The Parent Trap, which starred Lindsay Lohan in the dual role of twins Hallie Parker and Annie James, who were separated by their parents at birth. In the film, which was also a retelling of the 1961 movie starring Hayley Mills, the girls have a chance meeting at summer camp and conspire to reunite their parents, played by Dennis Quaid and the late Natasha Richardson. In July, Meyers appeared in a reunion special hosted by Katie Couric, which also featured Lohan, Quaid, and actors Elaine Hendrix, Lisa Ann Walter, and Simon Kunz. The event also helped raised money for World Central Kitchen, a charity that has been helping individuals and restaurants throughout the ongoing pandemic. The special Father of the Bride reunion will premiere on Friday, September 25 at 3PT/6ET on Netflix, YouTube and Facebook.[video_embed id='2039679']BEFORE YOU GO: Artist goes viral by singing song in different accents.[/video_embed]
