Back in September, model and actress Jodie Turner-Smith revealed that her marriage with Canadian actor Joshua Jackson was over when she filed for divorce after four years together.

She cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason,  and requested to share joint custody of their 3-year-old child, Juno Rose, born in April 2020. Now, after months of speculation over what led to their union’s demise, Turner-Smith is finally sharing her side of the story.

“Sometimes things we really want to work just don't end up working,” she told The Sunday Times’ magazine for their cover story over the weekend. “And that's okay. The most important thing is that you choose what's healthiest for you and your family and definitely your children.”

“There are so many different moments in our life where we look at ourselves and say, ‘Who am I and am I being true to that?’”

She continued, “If the answer is no, then you have to make a move because I believe that there are visible scars from staying in places that are not good for us. And they don't just affect us, they affect everybody around us.”

She adds that she views their union in quite the positive light: “I don't think it's a failure. We obviously had such a beautiful moment together. And now it's time for a new moment for both of us. And how exciting!”

Turner-Smith went on to say that their daughter’s happiness is her priority first and foremost as she moves forward with her life.

“The bravest thing in the world is to recognise when something's not working and to make a move, and I always want to set that kind of example for my daughter,” she told the outlet. “The big takeaway is that this is about just as much love and joy as it has always been. This is only about taking a step forward into a better life for everybody involved.”

Back in October, a source close to the situation told Us Weekly that Jackson was “caught off guard” by Turner-Smith’s request for a divorce.

“They had their issues, as many couples do — especially two busy actors who are also juggling a child,” the insider remarked. “Joshua obviously didn’t realize it was this bad, that Jodie was this unhappy.”
