Henry Cavill is not a fan of sex scenes, thank you very much
Man of Steel star Henry Cavill doesn’t understand sex scenes and thinks they’re overused in movies and TV shows. That’s right, the man who was voted the Sexiest Man Alive by a Glamour poll in 2013 doesn’t like doing them in his projects and watching them on screen. Is he trying to break our hearts?
“I don’t understand them – I’m not a fan,” he said during a recent appearance on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast by Josh Horowitz and his Argylle director Matthew Vaughn. “There are circumstances where a sex scene actually is beneficial to a movie, rather than just the audience, but I think sometimes they’re overused these days.”
According to Cavill, he feels like sex scenes often aren’t used to advance the story or plot, but rather are just used as a ploy, and their usage falls flat for him.
“It’s when you have a sense where you’re going, ‘Is this really necessary or is it just people with less clothing on?’” he said. “And that’s when you start to get more uncomfortable and you’re thinking, ‘There’s not a performance here. There’s not a piece which is going to carry through to the rest of the movie’.”
He did clarify that sometimes, “sex scenes can be great in a movie” and “can really help with the storytelling,” but qualified that with, “Most of the time the human imagination is going to trump it. So, it can be a little bit of a cop-out if a TV show or a movie is just filled with gyrating bodies and you’re going, ‘Okay, but what is this doing for us apart from the idea of, “Oh naked person, great.”‘”
“[I’m] not a fan of doing them,” he said again.
This news is coming as a big surprise to some in his fanbase, with some pointing out that the sexy actor shot to fame because of his steamy scenes in TV shows like The Tudors and The Witcher, while others agree with his assertion.
Nevertheless, we suspect there is a very real and very dedicated Cavill fan base that is sobbing they will never see another sex scene from him again (and that fan base is us).
