There are three reasons why we are low-key obsessed with Billy Porter. First, the Emmy winner is one of the most talented actors around. Secondly, he always speaks his mind and is a purveyor of #RealTalk, and thirdly, his red carpet lewks are FIRE.
But news is breaking today that perhaps that second reason has affected the third, and is resulting in huge drama. Radar Online is reporting that Billy’s Met Gala invitation for next year has been “revoked” due to his recent comments about Vogue EIC Anna Wintour.
A source told the outlet, “The repercussions of Porter's big mouth have been swift and decisive, as his invitation to the all-important Met Gala was revoked and his once-favorable standing with top-tier designers has been shaken.”
The insider added, "While Billy is a sensation on the fashion scene, the designers have rallied behind Anna, a true titan of the industry."
Earlier this month, we reported that the “Kinky Boots” legend wasn’t happy with all the accoladed Harry Styles received for his gender-bending Vogue cover, telling The Telegraph, “It doesn’t feel good to me. You’re using my community — or your people are using my community — to elevate you. You haven’t had to sacrifice anything.”
"It’s not Harry Styles’ fault that he happens to be white and cute and straight and fit into the infrastructure that way … I call out the gatekeepers,” he continued
He then called out the Prada-wearing devil –ahem, we mean Anna Wintour, saying, “That b***h said to me at the end, ‘How can we do better?’ And I was so taken off guard that I didn’t say what I should have said.”
It seems that slur has gotten back to Wintour who has banned him from the Met Gala next year.
If true, that would be a real shame, because Billy’s red carpet lewks over the years have literally launched a thousand ships.
In 2020, the “Pose” star literally shut the Met Gala red carpet down by showing up as an Ancient Egyptian sun god, and was CARRIED to the stairs by six shirtless men.
We stan a Queen.
One of the first time he set the internet on fire was during the 2020 Grammy’s when he wore a wide brimmed cap with an electronic fringe that opened and closed like curtains by the touch of a button.
At the 2019 Oscars he wore an incredibly svelte tux-dress that set tongues wagging.
Then at the 2020 Oscars he wore more gold, this time a feathered top and an orange skirt.
For the 2022 Grammy’s he wore a gorgeous fuschia pants suit that set eyes ablaze. He’s serving so much colour, there are no other colours anymore.
This year red tux/dress for the Golden Globe awards was a further chapter in his book of colour.
And then he freaked everyone the heck out on the BET Awards red carpet with his dramatic sinister look that made everyone do a double take.
