A complete timeline of Taylor Swift and Matty Healy's rumoured relationship
If you haven’t heard, after six years, the romance between “lavender Haze” songstress Taylor Swift and “Conversations with Friends” star Joe Alwyn is no more. But hark! What news is this coming from beyond the interwebs? There is ANOTHER, and Taylor shall not languish in solitude much longer, for 1975’s Matt Healy is here.
Okay we don’t know if this supposed love between Swift and Healy is that grand of a romance (or also, you know, if it’s even true), but pictures of the pair were just snapped of them arriving together by car to her Nashville condo.
Swift is of course a famous Grammy-winning singer songwriter and Healy, also a musician, is mostly famous for kissing his fans during his band’s concerts. So could there these romance rumours hold any veracity? It turns out, the two have been dancing around the topic since 2014!
Here’s a complete timeline of their supposed love that is dividing Swifties.
2014
Taylor attended one of the 1975’s concerts, and then Matt admitted during an interview that he got her digits.
"We exchanged numbers," he told an Australian radio show, per E News. "I mean, bloody hell, what am I going to do? Go out with Taylor Swift? She's a sensation; I wouldn't say no!"
Glamour even reported at the time that the pair were spotted wearing each other’s merch Tee’s.
2016
Initial romance rumours died down after that, although Healy did give quite a few contradictory soundbites during his interviews that year. First he told Q Magazine that dating Swift would be emasculating. Ummm, what?
“She wasn't a big impact on my life,” he said (via The Guardian) "It's just interesting to me how interested the world is about Taylor Swift. The reason I mention that is because if I had [properly] gone out with Taylor Swift, I would've been, 'F***ing hell, I am not being Taylor Swift's boyfriend. You know, ‘‘F***. That.’’ That's also a man thing, a demasculinating, emasculating thing."
Yikes.
Then he did an about face, taking to Twitter to post in his now-defunct account (but reported by Elle at the time) that he found her to be nothing but beautiful, gracious, and admirable.
“I have said on countless occasions that I found her to be one of the most gracious, hard-working, creatively gifted, and beautiful women that I have had the pleasure to meet,” he tweeted. “I personally have a lot of respect and admiration for her. Why would I not?’”
2023
Then the news went dark for (*does the math*) seven years, until Swift showed up in January to a 1975 concert, guitar and glittery-dress in tow, and performed their song “The City” on stage.
By April, news broke that Swift and Alwyn called it quits after six years together, shocking many fans. But as rumours of Swift canoodling with Healy began to swirl in early May, some fans speculated that the “Anti-Hero” songstress might have cheated on Alwyn with Healy, because People reported on their breakup on Healy’s birthday. We’ll give you a second to re-read that again because hooooo-boy.
Then the pair were off to the races.
An unnamed source told The Sun, ““[Taylor] and Matty are madly in love. It’s super-early days, but it feels right. They first dated, very briefly, almost ten years ago but timings just didn’t work out. Both Matty and Taylor have been touring over the past few weeks, so it’s been a lot of Face-Timing and texting but she cannot wait to see him again.”
We would normally suggest taking that with a grain of salt but then Healy was spotted singing and dancing along to “Shake It Off” at Swift’s Nashville concert.

Plus, during each of their respective concerts, both Swift and Healy appeared to mouth the exact same phrase on stage, “this one’s for you, you know who you are. I love you.” Now, we’re not lip-readers, and we’re not fully convinced here this is what’s happening, but still…
Then on Saturday, he attended her Nashville concert once again, this time performing on-stage with show opener Phoebe Bridgers.
Then the pic of the pair heading back to her condo was snapped that evening.
Look, that’s all we know so far, and a lot of this seems like fan extrapolation rather than anything concrete. HOWEVER, Swift is famous for hiding Easter eggs all over her work. Healy, are you an egg? We demand answers.
