Supermodel Tyra Banks has just hinted that her time as host on Dancing With The Stars is coming to an end, after a controversial hosting takeover that began in 2020. C’mon Tyra, WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU.
Speaking with TMZ, the supermodel and America’s Next Top Model host, revealed, “I feel it's really time for me to focus on my business and my entrepreneurship, and also producing more TV — but behind the scenes.”
"I think it's time to graduate from the dance floor to the stock market floor. ... from the ballroom to the boardroom!" she continued.
The outlet then pressed her for clarification, as she also serves as executive producer on the show.
"Don't you think it's time? Yeah, I think it's time," she replied, seemingly confirming her impending exit. "I'm an entrepreneur at heart. ... I think my heart, my soul, is into my business, it's also into producing new TV. ... But, I really, really want to focus on my business, and you can't do that hosting a show."
The Smize business owner took over from previous much-beloved hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews in 2020, and faced a torrent of criticism for her hosting style. In 2020, we reported that she actually addressed some of her sloppier moments on TikTok.
“Tonight I hosted the second episode of DWTS that I’m hosting this season, and it wasn’t perfect,” she said at the time. “Yeah I had a lot of fun but I messed up, I said the wrong words, but the thing is I kept, kept going.”
“Forgive yourself when you mess up, stand the heck up and keep going,” she added.
Previous host Bergeron had hosted the ABC series from its 2005 debut, with Andrews joining in 2014. Just last year, it was announced that Tyra would have a co-host, The Fresh Prince legend Alfonso Ribeiro. The show has also since moved from airing live on ABC to stream-only on Disney +.
While reps for DWTS have not responded publicly to her announcement, some people are supporting the supermodel during this tumultuous news
Meanwhile, some can’t believe their luck on this St. Patrick’s Day.
Others wonder if that leaves the door open for a Tom Bergeron triumphant return
