Does Nick Cannon's new single 'Alone' mean he wants Mariah Carey back?

The Masked Singer host Nick Cannon celebrated Valentine’s Day by paying tribute to his famous ex-wife with the voice of an angel, Mariah Carey. Dropping on his social media channels, Nick’s “Alone” is a love-lorn R&B ballad that he says came from a “raw” place in his heart. “This is for anybody else who is #ALONE on Valentines Day…,” he captioned the audio release on Twitter. “I had to come Raw from the heart on this one. #Broken #Shattered #Toxic #RAW&B #Alone.”

After a quick listen of the tune, many fans are noticing obvious references to the “Heart Breaker” songstress. The track samples and covers Mariah’s famous ballad “Love Takes Time” that blew up the charts in 1990, and featured on her self-titled debut album.

We’re surprised he didn’t sample her other hit from that album “Someday” because she clearly sings, “someday, the one you gave away will be the only one you’re wishing for!”

On “Alone,” Nick croons, “I say I’m cool when I know I miss it / I’d trade it all for the case / If I could have you back / If I could go back to where we started at.” "First off, I'm gonna say I ain't got nothing but love for ya," he sings. "Nothing but love/Imma stay away, I ain't trying to f**k it up for ya/I keep my distance, stay in my lane/Cause I know you got a man, it's a little too late." 

Mariah definitely has a man. After divorcing Cannon, whom she was with from 2008-2014, she had a brief engagement to James Packer, but has been in a relationship with Brian Tanaka, her backup dancer, since 2016.

Mariah and Nick share twins Moroccan and Monroe. Nick continues on the track, “As much as I want you back/ It's probably better where you at/Cause I'm still running the streets/ I'm still all in the sheets/ Having babies, models and singers and actresses saying they pregnant by me," he sings. "Have to pay $10,000 a week, I take care of my peeps/Now you don't worry when I creep/You got a man next to you when you sleep."

That sounds like a reference to the eight children Nick has fathered (one of those eight is currently on the way!). He is currently with model Bre Tiesi and this will be their first child together. Last year, Nick and former partner Alyssa Scott suffered the devastating loss of their 5-month old son Zen to a brain tumour. 

News that “Alone” might be about the “Honey” songstress hit the interwebs with a bang, with many Twitter users giving some side-eye to this tribute when he’s expecting a child with another woman.

As many people online are pointing out Nick’s obvious love for making a large family of Cannon’s, last week comedian and actor Kevin Hart pranked Nick by sending him a vending machine full of condoms . . . just in time for Valentine’s Day.

“Now u don’t have an excuse because the condoms are free,” Hart wrote on Twitter and Instagram on February 7th, with a picture of Nick posing with the vending machine.

At press time, Mariah Carey hasn’t responded to Nick’s track, but as many people online have questioned, did she give him permission to sample “Love Takes Time?” Enquiring minds want to know!
