It happened: Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox are engaged. Fox made the betrothal Instagram-official on January 12, sharing a video of Kelly proposing under a banyan tree with candles everywhere as birds chirped in the background.

“In July of 2020 we sat under this banyan tree. We asked for magic,” Fox captioned the post. “We were oblivious to the pain we would face together in such a short, frenetic period of time."

"Unaware of the work and sacrifices the relationship would require from us but intoxicated off of the love. And the karma,” she continued.

“Somehow a year and a half later, having walked through hell together, and having laughed more than I ever imagined possible, he asked me to marry him. And just as in every lifetime before this one, and as in every lifetime that will follow it, I said yes… and then we drank each other’s blood,” she wrapped.

We’re not totally sure if Fox was kidding or if the pair decided to commemorate the moment with an actual ritual. (Is anyone else flashing back to the time Angelina Jolie wore then-husband Billy Bob Thornton’s blood in a vial around her neck?) Either way, it made us want to revisit their relationship with this comprehensive timeline.

March 2020 – Fox and Kelly got close while filming Midnight in the Switchgrass. The movie shut down for several weeks shortly after production kicked off because of the pandemic, and at the time, a source revealed the pair had been hanging out a lot during that pause. “The down time has been good for them...They are intrigued by each other and having a lot of fun,” the source told E! News.

May 2020 – Rumours of the pair dating surfaced after they were spotted hanging out and grabbing takeout. Meanwhile, other rumours revealed Fox and her ex-husband Brian Austin Green were quarantining separately.

Later, Green confirmed the speculation on his podcast and claimed that at the time, so far as he knew, Fox and MGK were just friends.

“I’ve never met him, but Megan and I have talked about him,” Austin revealed. “They’re friends at this point, and from what she’s expressed, he’s a really nice, genuine guy, and I trust her judgment.”

E! News had a different take on it though, thanks to another anonymous source. “Megan has been working on a movie with Machine Gun Kelly and gotten close to him. They are hooking up and have been for a little while,” the publication reported. “She is separated from Brian Austin Green, and they are taking time apart as a couple. She has something going on with Machine Gun Kelly that she is excited about.”

Two days later, the Fox-starring video for MGK’s lead single off his new album, Bloody Valentine, dropped, adding fuel to the fire.

June 2020 – Following multiple reports and photos of the pair hanging out together, MGK himself confirmed that he and Fox were indeed a thing.

Later that month, Kelly also shared his and Fox’s matching “Bloody Valentine” manicures on his Instagram Story.

July 2020 – The pair gave their first joint interview on the podcast Give Them Lala … With Randall, first invoking the concept of the duo's connection being soulmate-level.

“I knew right away that he was what I call a twin flame,” Fox said. “Instead of a soul mate, a twin flame is actually where a soul has ascended into a high enough level that it can be split into two different bodies at the same time. So we're actually two halves of the same soul, I think. And I said that to him almost immediately, because I felt it right away.”

Following the podcast, the pair also went Instagram official.

September 2020Us Weekly reports that MGK had met Fox’s kids, despite some drama that went down over the summer between her and Green, who was stalling the divorce. “Megan and Brian’s relationship is so up and down. They have been co-parenting in a healthy way as best as they can,” a source added.

Towards the end of the month, Kelly himself opened up even more about the relationship, telling Howard Stern that he didn’t know what true love was until he made eye contact with Fox. “That was my first experience with being open to love and stuff like that. I definitely wasn't set up to believe that that's something that could ever exist," he said.

A couple of days later, the couple was seen scaling the roof of The Roxy in Los Angeles while celebrating the release of Kelly’s album.

April 2021 – After a quiet period in which plenty of outlets speculated about just how serious the couple was getting, a source revealed to E! News that the two were planning on getting engaged and married. “[They are] very much in love and have a strong and intense relationship...Her divorce is moving along, and they are hashing out custody details," the source said.

May 2021 – Fox and MGK attended the Billboard Music Awards together, where they were photographed touching tongues on the red carpet. Later that same week, they sported matching pink outfits at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. And then by May 25, Kelly revealed they were celebrating an entire year since Fox first said she loved him.

July 2021 – In an interview with Fox 5 New York, Fox revealed some of her nicknames for MGK: Cookie, Buddha and Booby. She also opened up about the relationship in an interview with The Washington Post, saying she knew they were “soulmates” as soon as she met him.

“The first time I looked into his eyes, I was like...‘I know you. I have known you so many times, in so many different forms, in so many different lives,’” she said.

September 2021 – Fox (over?)shares about the couple’s sex life by posting some mirror selfies in front of the dining table where they were vacationing. "When I tell you that the table at this air bnb saw some things,” she captioned the post.

October 2021 – The pair made their cover debut on British GQ, complete with a salacious interview, in which they both revealed they didn’t remember each other’s faces the first time they met.

“‘I don’t remember your face...’ And I definitely would have remembered his face,” Fox said. “I just remember this tall, blond, ghostly creature and I looked up and I was like, ‘You smell like weed.’ He looked down at me and he was like, ‘I am weed.’ Then, I swear to God, he disappeared like a ninja in a smoke bomb.”

She also revealed that now, she believes they didn’t remember each other’s faces because they weren’t supposed to run into each other yet and their spirit guides were luring them away from each other.

“This is a very intense relationship,” she continued. “Our souls chose this to absolutely have to face our shadow selves; to face things about ourselves we didn't want to have to know, that we tried to push away. It should be light, but also we go to hell with each other."

"It's ecstasy and agony for sure,” Kelly added. “I don't want people to think anything's perfect with us. I didn't say it was the darkest fairytale for no reason.”

Which brings us to today. Fox wasn’t the only one who chose to let the world in on her engagement to MGK—The Blonde Don also shared the news on his own social media feeds, revealing the emerald-diamond engagement ring he’d had made for his fiancée.

“Yes, in this life and every life,” he wrote. “Beneath the same branches we fell in love under, i brought her back to ask her to marry me. i know tradition is one ring, but i designed it with Stephen Webster to be two: the emerald (her birth stone) and the diamond (my birth stone) set on two magnetic bands of thorns that draw together as two halves of the same soul forming the obscure heart that is our love.”

Congrats to the happy couple.
