Once upon a time, one would think of Nick Cannon and think of Mariah Carey, of Drumline, of MTV, of so many things that were honestly delightful. But today, in 2021, the year of so much chaos, when we think of Nick Cannon, we think of a man who has no other joy than spreading his seed 'cause he's got to have babies. So many babies!

To recap, Cannon, 40, has seven children, which is fine. Here's where it gets a little complicated: he shares twins Monroe and Moroccan with Carey, who he was married to for six years until 2016; two children, Golden and Powerful, with model Brittany Bell; twins Zion and Zillion with DJ Abby De La Rosa; and son Zen with model Alyssa Scott. The latter four were all born in quick succession, with Powerful in December 2020, and both the second set of twins and Zen in June 2021. Needless to say, Cannon has been busy – and collecting plenty of backlash along the way.

On Power 106's The Breakfast Club in July, he explained that he decided to grow his family this way "on purpose" and not at all by accident after City Girls' JT told him to "wrap it up and protect yourself." He responded, “I didn’t have no accident. [There were] a lot of people that I could’ve gotten pregnant that I didn’t. You only live once.”

If that isn't an incredibly swoon-worthy statement, what could possibly be?

When he was asked again why he's chosen to have so many children and with various mothers on The Breakfast Club this week, Cannon said, “Why do people question it? That’s a Eurocentric concept when you think about the ideas… that you’re supposed to have this one person for the rest of your life.”

He generously continued, “The idea that a man should have one woman, we shouldn’t have anything. I have no ownership over this person... It’s about what exchange we can create together. So, I’ve never really subscribed to that mentality. I understand the institution of marriage, but if we go back to what that was about, that was to classify property. That was because one father gave another man his daughter for land... I don’t want ownership over anybody. I don’t have ownership over any of the mothers. We created a beautiful family, we created a beautiful entity... I don’t subscribe to that. Those women, all women, are the ones that open themselves up and say, ‘I would like to allow this man in my world. And I will birth this child.’ It ain’t my decision. I’m following suit."

Insisting he hasn't been walking around debating who to impregnate next like some kind of supervillain and as the internet has assumed, Cannon added, “Every woman that I deal with or dealt with, they know how I feel.”

As many commented on Instagram, "it's the fake wokeness for me" and "he thought long and hard for it still to sound like nonsense." Pretty much. Who knew standing by one woman was Eurocentric? The more you know!
