Like mother, like daughter. Mariah Carey’s daughter Monroe Cannon has taken her first step into her mother’s famous footsteps by modelling for her first ad campaign for OshKosh B’Gosh. The best part is she is portraying Mariah at a young age circa 1980, when the young songstress was full of hopes and dreams.

“Someday it’s going to be different,” 10-year-old Monroe says in a voice-over as she models denim overalls and plays with a butterfly on her finger. “The melodies that live in my head: someday they’ll live at the top of the charts.”

Monroe’s resemblance to her mom, with her massive curly hair and wide-eyed smile, is uncanny as she continues, “The songs in my heart will touch millions of hearts. Artist of the year, artist of the decade, artist of the millennium!”

“But the meaning is in inspiring generations of little girls to hit their high note,” she adds. “How’s that for a daydream?”

There’s also a little fashion Easter egg for eagle-eyed fans. Monroe is wearing the same OshKosh denim overalls that the child version of Mariah wore in her very first breakout music video, “Someday,” way back in 1990. Talk about a deep cut.

The new ad campaign is called Today is Someday and it arrives just in time for the back-to-school season. Mariah/Monroe are featured in one ad, while Muhammad Ali and Outkast feature in their own special spots that feature them as children dreaming of their special place in the spotlight when they become adults.

"As a little girl, I was determined to realize my dreams,” Mariah said in a statement. “Now as a mother, it brings me so much joy to see my children visualize and develop the dreams they hold in their own hearts."

"We did the campaign because we love the message of empowering kids to dream boldly and blaze their own path," she concluded.

This isn’t the first time Mariah and Monroe have shared the spotlight. Last year, they teamed up for a TikTok to encourage people to vote in the 2020 US Presidential election. Mariah shares Monroe and son Moroccan with ex-husband Nick Cannon.
