Supermodel and proud mama Gigi Hadid has issued a public plea over her daughter Khai’s safety and privacy.

Gigi and her partner, former One Directioner Zayn Malik, have very sparingly shared photographs of their 10-month old daughter, and they have never shown her face. Now, Gigi is asking in an emotional letter to fan accounts and the paparazzi to follow suit, begging them to respect Khai’s right to privacy when the family is out in public.

“To the Paparazzi, press, and beloved fan accounts, you know we have never intentionally shared our daughters face on social media,” she wrote in an Instagram Story that was also posted to her Twitter account.

“Our wish is that she can choose how to share herself with the world when she comes of age, and that she can live as normal of a childhood as possible, without worrying about a public image that she has not chosen."

“PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE,” she wrote in all caps, “blur her face out of the images, if and when she is caught on camera.”

In the tweet, captioned, “a letter from a mamma,” she also acknowledged the paps who have always been respectful, regardless of paparazzi laws in their respective states.

"I would like to send a huge 'Thank You' to those paparazzi who have been so respectful, since I asked them to keep a distance while I walked with the stroller, since my first trip to NYC with Khai. I see you and I appreciate it.”

The heartfelt letter was precipitated by the family’s recent strolls through NYC, Gigi writes, and how Khai is so interested in the hustle and bustle of the city, she lifts up the sunshade on her stroller, which the couple have used to shield her face from prying eyes.

“She doesn’t understand why she’s covered in the city, or what I’ve wanted to protect her from," Gigi explains.

She continued, “I also want her to see the most amazing city in the world. The beautiful and diverse people that walk down the streets of NYC that is, without the stress of the media circus that comes with parents who are public figures.”

The 26-year-old mother also noted that when Khai comes of age, she can choose for herself if she wants to be a public figure, but until then, Zayn and Gigi will protect her image and privacy as they see fit. She also expressed that she hoped her stance would help "continue the conversation to protect minors in the media."

Gigi recently said in a Vogue interview that giving birth to Khai was one of the most emotional and difficult experiences, saying she, “knew it was going to be the craziest pain in my life, but you have to surrender to it and be like, 'This is what it is.' I loved that."

With Zayn, her mother, her sister Bella, her assistant and her midwife by her side, Gigi welcomed baby Khai joyfully, but also noted that her and Zayn aren’t ready to go through that again just yet.

"Afterward, Z and I looked at each other and were like, 'We can have some time before we do that again!'"
