They still FaceTime!

Jennifer Aniston has starred in both Rumour Has It and The Breakup, probably because there have been endless rumours about her breakups (makes sense!). Her ex-husband (no, not that one) had something to say about their split and the gossip surrounding it in a new interview with Esquire.

Actor Justin Theroux, who first started dating the Friends alum in 2011 before marrying her in 2015 (they divorced in 2018) very decidedly put to bed any rumours that their breakup was acrimonious, and set the record straight that they are truly the best of friends.

“That's a narrative that is not true, for the most part," Justin said of the rumour they divorced because she wanted to live in LA and he wanted NYC. "Look, people create narratives that make themselves feel better or simplify things for them. That whole 'This person likes rock 'n' roll, that person likes jazz. Of course!' That's just not the case. It's an oversimplification."

"I would say we've remained friends," he said. "We don't talk every day, but we call each other. We FaceTime. We text."

He continued, "Like it or not, we didn't have that dramatic split, and we love each other. I'm sincere when I say that I cherish our friendship. We can not be together and still bring each other joy and friendship.”

“Also, she makes me laugh very, very hard. She's a hilarious person. It would be a loss if we weren't in contact, for me personally. And I'd like to think the same for her."

Wow, we’re not sure if there’s a #DivorcedGoals hashtag floating about, but these two would definitely qualify. We love that they’re totally chill with each other. Of course, as we saw recently, Jen is also super chill with her first ex-husband, Brad Pitt.

First they had that lovely hug backstage at the SAG awards last year, and then they actually acted together in a virtual table read of Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Looks like Jen is the best person to be divorced from . . . what, what?

As for Justin, despite their divorce, he has always remembered to pay tribute to Jen on her birthday, like this incredible homage he posted on his Instagram last year.

"I think that when you get good at relationships — and here I am, single — if you love the person the same way you loved them in the relationship, it would behoove you to love them the same way out of the relationship," he said in the Esquire profile. "Who wants to take a s**t while you're walking out the door?"

The pandemic hasn’t alieved Justin of his singledom, unfortunately. As he says in the profile, “All the avenues to dating are completely shut.” And he is steadfastly opposed to dating apps.

“Sounds a little old-fashioned, but I actually like to get to know someone. That’s the fun of meeting people.”

“There’s only one pivotal relationship in my life,” he concludes. “My mom.”
