There were some stunning gowns, too.

Like last weekend’s Golden Globes, the 2021 Critics Choice Awards also went digital in the wake of the ongoing pandemic. A small handful of stars who presented awards during the ceremony were in person at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, but most celebs participated from home.

While the spontaneity and playful interaction of the red carpet are missing from these virtual events, there’s something relatable and charming about watching Hollywood get dressed up for a night in and then posting their outfits to social media.

Here are some of the most memorable looks of the night.

Angela Bassett

Angela Bassett’s sequin tux-inspired fit by Alberta Ferretti was one of my favs How good does she look!? The dangling David Yurman earrings were a subtle but welcomed touch.

Kaley Cuoco

Kaley, who was nominated for her role in The Flight Attendant, also chose a glittery suit. The wide embellished lapels on the Dolce and Gabbana look had a theatrical vibe, as did the high-waisted pants. The star didn’t win her category, but she posted a hilarious snap to IG of herself post ceremony.

H.E.R.

Musical talent H.E.R. also suited up for the event and the ’90s-inspired Miu Miu suit that she wore, with its floral appliques and tapered pants, looked effortlessly cool.

Viola Davis

Viola was nominated for her work in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and while she didn’t take home the award for her acting, she deserves some kind of trophy for her style. The stunning blue gown, created by Toronto’s own Greta Constantine, with its ruffled neck and sleeves, was a show-stopper of the night.

Emma Corrin

Emma won Best Actress for her work in The Crown and wore this mind-blowing Schiaparelli creation with matching earrings. Dan Levy commented “Screaming,” on her Insta post of the fit and I cannot relate more.

Dan Levy

Speaking of Dan, the multi-talent took home the award (go, Dan, go!) for his role as David on Schitt’s Creek looking incredible in a Dior suit topped off with combat boots.

Catherine O’Hara

Catherine also received recognition for her role on Schitt’s Creek taking home the award for Best Actress in a Comedy. Like Dan, Catherine channeled her character, Moira, in a black Elie Saab mini dress and thigh-high boots.

Amanda Seyfried

Amanda’s stylist referred to this Miu Miu look as having “a dash of Garbo, Minnelli, Chaplin,” and I can totally see the inspo from all three. The black sheer long-sleeved shirt with its metallic jewels works with the tuxedo-inspired bow-tie and white bib.

Maria Bakalova

Maria’s role in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm earned her the award for Best Supporting Actress this year, and the 24-year-old seemed genuinely surprised during her acceptance speech. The dazzling Prada dress with its bedazzled bow detail and a sweet matching headband is gorgeous.

Gal Gadot

This Prabal Gurung top looks like the most perfectly whipped meringue and Gal’s hair and makeup complement it in all the right ways, as do the Tiffany’s earrings.

Regina King

The Louis Vuitton gown that Regina wore to the Globes last week was pure fire, but somehow she managed to up it at Critics Choice this week. This Versace creation with sculptural shoulders is going to be hard to top come next month’s Oscars.

Cynthia Erivo

Dangggg, Cynthia nailed it in this custom Vera Wang. The cream tulle, the black lace, the nails… it’s all so covetable.

Orlando Bloom

Orlando was a presenter this year and reported for duty suited up in a navy Brunello Cucinelli number.

Julia Garner

Julia took a more laid-back approach to her style than some of her peers, but she still looked stellar. The fitted stripe Christopher John Rogers dress was gorgeous on the star and the Tamara Mellon booties were a sleek detail.

Daisy Edgar Jones

Daisy’s Oscar de la Renta mini with deep-V neckline was bold and sassy. The 22-year-old didn’t win for Normal People, but based on her Insta caption, she was thrilled to be nominated.
