We all need a little positivity in our lives and viral dancer Gurdeep Pandher is committed to "dancing every single day through the pandemic and converting all the newsfeed into positivity/happiness." He has a strong passion for Bhangra, an energetic, folk dance that originated from Punjab, India.

Gurdeep, who received his Canadian citizenship in 2011, is a full-time dance teacher and he posted his first dancing video online almost five years ago which led to him becoming a viral sensation in Canada and all around the world.

Gurdeep has also caught the attention of Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds. The Deadpool actor recently started following Gurdeep who said that he never thought this could happen.“I never, ever even in my weirdest dreams would expect him to follow me and when I saw that, I was totally surprised,” Gurdeep told etalk's Sonia Beeksma, with a huge smile on his face.

Sonia suggested that Gurdeep reach out to the Canadian superstar and offer to teach him Bhangra. “So far I didn’t message him but you gave me a great idea,” he said.

In addition to Reynolds, Gurdeep said he would love to teach Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg Bhangra. “I would love to have the climate activist Greta to dance Bhangra. I see a connection — because I live in wilderness, I’m a big believer in protecting the environment. I think it would fit well,” he said.

Gurdeep explained that he ended up in the Whitehorse, Yukon after he decided to take road trips all over the country. “When I came to the Yukon I fell in love with it instantly. I’ve been going to almost all Yukon schools to teach Bhangra,” he shared.

He also opened up about why he loves Bhangra and enjoys teaching it to his students and anyone else who wants to learn some new moves. “Bhangra is dance of happiness. Bhangra is dance of joy. Bhangra is dance of positivity so whenever I’m a little bit down or in a reflective moment I dance Bhangra. It makes me happy,” he told Sonia.

Gurdeep has also been creating cross-cultural bridges through dance and he collaborated with the Government of Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces in June 2019 to create a Bhangra dance video to celebrate diversity and inclusivity in The Canadian Forces.

We hope that we see a video of Gurdeep teaching Ryan Reynolds some socially-distanced Bhangra moves very soon.
