The 78th annual Golden Globes (watch the full show on CTV now) didn’t look the same as usual—the entire thing was hosted virtually—but that didn’t stop Hollywood A-listers from pulling on some stunning 'fits.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co-hosted the annual ceremony, with Fey Zooming in from the Rockefeller Center Rainbow Room in New York and Poehler from the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. There were still a small group of celebs who presented awards IRL in front of an equally small audience, but instead of a star-studded lineup of guests, the crowd consisted of essential and front-line workers.

Here are some of the most outstanding looks of the night.

Jackson and Satchel Lee

It’s an annual tradition for the kid of a famous actor to act as a Globes Ambassador. This year brother and sister duo Jackson and Satchel Lee, Spike Lee’s offspring, shared the duty and perfectly complemented each other in head-to-toe Gucci.

Viola Davis

Nominee Viola Davis’ Claude Kameni gown is one of my absolute favourites of the night. The bold colours and pattern make such a statement, as does the Pomellato link necklace, earrings and bracelet, and it’s a thrill to see Viola wear something by the Cameroonian designer.

Margot Robbie

Margot, who was a presenter on the LA side of things, opted for a simple black-and-white-print maxi by Chanel, which had a belted waist and thigh-high slit. It was more low-key than you’d expect for a Globes red carpet, but given the circumstances, it worked.

Andra Day

Like Margot, Andra also wore Chanel, but her look from the heritage fashion house’s Spring 2021 Haute Couture collection was a lot more runway. The frothy fabric and muted tones of the material looked gorgeous on the Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama winner, as did the halter neckline.

Sarah Hyland

Modern Family may have ended last year, but Sarah Hyland will forever be Haley Dunphy in my mind. The star looked incredible in a bright red off-the-shoulder Monique Lhuillier gown that she paired with chandelier earrings and loose waves.

Dan Levy

Canada’s Dan Levy and Schitt's Creek, which he co-wrote, co-produced and acted in, is up for a number of awards, including Best Television Series. Levy looked like a trillion bucks in a chartreuse suit by Valentino and metallic chunky footwear.

Kaley Cuoco

Look at this strapless princess ball gown by Oscar De la Renta that Kaley showed off in! She's also wearing Harry Winston jewels, though they’re not really necessary considering just how sparkly this dress is on its own.

Tina Fey

On the New York side of the broadcast, Tina held down the fort in a black tuxedo-inspired dress and sheer polka-dot nylons. Classy and understated, just as you’d expect for a virtual awards ceremony.

Amy Poehler

Meanwhile in LA, co-host Amy also opted for head-to-toe black and, in true BFF fashion, chose a similar silhouette to Tina.

Maya Rudolph

The orange floral Valentino that Maya wore to the LA side of things wasn’t exactly what I would’ve put her in, but she’s glowing in this hue and her blunt cut looks cool. Peep those Jimmy Choo heels, too.

Angela Bassett

Angela knows this juicy plum hue is her colour and the Dolce & Gabbana gown, with its feather embellishments on one shoulder and deep side slit, was a winning choice.

Amanda Seyfried

Amanda’s been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Mank, so it’s no surprise that she’s dressed to impress in a coral-coloured backless gown by Oscar de la Renta with intricate floral appliques lining the edge. So whimsical and pretty.

Tiffany Haddish

Actor and comedian Tiffany Haddish, who presented at this socially distanced ceremony on the LA side, chose a metallic strapless gown with a deep-V cut at the bust. This thing has total chainmail vibes and has got to feel like wearing a weighted vest at Crossfit, but it looks incredible on the star.

Cynthia Erivo

This Valentino Couture gown isn’t going to be for everyone, but dang does Cynthia ever stand out in this muted lime hue. The cut is perfectly fitting for a Hollywood red carpet of this kind and it has me dreaming of summertime and a cup of key lime gelato.

Awkwafina

Leave it to Awkwafina to show up to the virtual awards wearing something so eclectic, but so on point. The actress’ geometric-print gown with its long sleeves and high neckline gave off those 70s vibes and her Harry Winston jewels only elevated the look.

Julia Garner

Julia made her Golden Globes debut this year, which I have to imagine is kind of like starting a new job during the pandemic and only meeting your new team via Zoom. But that didn’t stop her from bringing her A-game. Julia, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries, or Motion Picture Made for Television for her role in Ozark, wore a black-and-white Prada gown with a V neckline that nearly touched her bellybutton.

Leslie Odom Jr.

Dang, Leslie! This Valentino look is so refreshing and I am here for it. The star was nominated for two awards this year, including Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in One Night In Miami as well as Best Original Song.

Laura Dern

Also presenting in LA this year: Lara Dern. The four-time-Globe-winning actress went for an understated black suit with her hair worn naturally and parted at the side.

Elle Fanning

Elle looked like an actual goddess in this ethereal blue silk gown by Gucci. “Dressed up for a night in,” she captioned her Insta photo of the look. Imagine her doing other at-home things, like loading the dishwasher, in something this dreamy!? Absolutely not.

Laverne Cox

Laverne also looked like 🔥 in a bold red Thai Nguyen custom-made gown. This piece is more like a work of art than dress IMO!

Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen

Isla and Sacha attended the Globes from home, but played dress-up anyhow. Isla’s Alex Perry gown was just as stunning as her Van Cleef jewels.

Gal Gadot

While a lot of celebs, whether arriving IRL or tuning in from home, opted for colour, Gal went with crisp white, and the high neckline and long sheer sleeves complemented the short cut.

Getty Images

Salma Hayek

Like others, Salma also chose to wear red. It’s hard to go wrong in this head-turning hue, really. How incredible is this belted ruched waist and choker-inspired cape neckline?

Jane Fonda

No doubt, Jane Fonda just gets better and better with age. The iconic actress and activist turned heads in this fitted white pantsuit, dangling earrings and metallic pointed heels while taking home the Cecil B. Demille Award this evening.

Emma Corrin

The Crown star Emma Corrin, a first-time nominee, took home the award for Best Actress in a TV Series. Luckily she was dressed like a Globe winner to accept the award virtually in a ruffle collared dress by Miu Miu and dangling emerald earrings. She even took the time to thank Princess Di during her acceptance speech.

Susan Kelechi Watson & Sterling K. Brown

This Is Us costars Susan Kelechi Watson and Sterling K. Brown took the stage together to present the award for Best TV Series for A Musical or Comedy. Susan shined in a glittery Georges Hobeika fringed dress. These two are just as fun to watch IRL as they are in character.

Regina King

Regina’s shimmering Louis Vuitton, which, according to a spokesperson for the brand, took 350 hours to make and had over 40,000 sequins and embellishments, is another dress that’s going to be talked about for weeks to come. Regina was another history maker of the night for her directorial debut nomination for One Night in Miami.
