Miley Cyrus is thanking the puppy Gods for her new pitbull. The “Midnight Sky” singer took to Instagram over the weekend to announce that, just a short time after her dog Mary Jane went over the rainbow bridge, she has found Mary Jane’s spirit in Angel, her new rescue.
Posting a series of photos of Miley with the new floof, along with her two other dogs Emu and Bo Cyrus, Miley started off the announcement with – you guessed it – song lyrics.
“I thought I lost you when you ran away to try & find me,” The Hannah Montana star began her post, referencing the lyrics to “I Thought I Lost You,” her 2008 duet with John Travolta from the movie Bolt. “I thought I'd never see your sweet face again. I turned around and you were gone & on the days went. I kept the moments that we were in. Cause I hoped in my heart you’d come back to me my friend. And now I got you... But I thought I lost you.”
She then continued in her own words, “Almost two months ago my best friend a rescued pit mix Mary Jane left this world. I knew she wasn’t gone for good. She had out lived the body she was in but she never said goodbye ..... with her eyes she whispered ‘See you soon Bestie’. Mary Jane defined loyalty and would never break a promise.”

“I feel her here with me blessing this new member to my family who’s [sic] name is Angel because she was delivered to me by one... My Mary. It breaks my heart to know Angel was sleeping on concrete in a shelter for 3 months before finally making it home. The stigma and stereotype that surrounds pit bulls tears me in two. This breed is incomparably loving. Just like humans nurture often overrides nature.”
“I am head over heels in love,” she added. Not sure I will ever sleep again because I can’t take my eyes off of her! Her halo shines for all to see and I can’t wait to show her off! It’s pretty cool having an Angel on a leash! She is illuminated by the aura of the late and great Mary Jane. Long live love. It never dies.”
She finished with an all caps postscript: “* ALL THE TEARS YOU SEE IN THIS SLIDE ARE HAPPY ONES*”
Yes, if you look closely, Miley is clearly emotionally touched in many of the pics as she cuddles her new rescue who is clearly a VERY GOOD GIRL. She even includes a short video of her facetiming with her pops, Billy Ray Cyrus, as he sings Angel a lullaby. TOO MUCH CUTENESS!
In January, the “Wrecking Ball” singer announced that MJ had passed after a cancer diagnosis. Miley has been the leader of the pack to several animals, on top of Emu and Bo Cyrus, and she has marked their presence in her life in a variety of ways. Emu inspired one of Miley’s tattoos. In 2015, she released an experimental album entitled, “Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz,” which included a tribute to her fish Pablow. Over the years she has been known to have a pig named Bubba Sue a.k.a. Pig Pig, whom she adopted in 2014 after her beloved dog Floyd suddenly died that year. In 2012 she suffered another dog loss with Lila after she was accidentally killed by another from her brood named Ziggy (who was later adopted out to another family).
Miley joins other celebrities, like Matthew and Camila McConaughey, who prefer to adopt not shop.
