Amy Poehler has had a very busy 2021 so far, and we’re only two months in. She’s set to host this year’s Golden Globes on Sunday (watch live Feb 28 at 8pET on CTV) with her funny partner in crime, Tina Fey, and she also directed and starred in the new Netflix film, Moxie.

The 78th Golden Globes marks Tina and Amy’s fourth time hosting the awards show together, but sadly, this time, they'll be on opposite coasts. Amy will emcee the live event from Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills while Tina will anchor in New York City at The Rainbow Room on top of Rockefeller Center. They previously hosted together (in person) at the 70th, 71st and 72nd shows, which took place from 2013 to 2015.

Amy spoke with etalk’s Traci Melchor about the upcoming Golden Globes and her movie Moxie. Based on Jennifer Mathieu's novel, the film is about a shy 16-year-old who finds inspiration from her mother’s rebellious past and anonymously publishes a zine that exposes sexism and brings forward a school-wide, coming-of-rage revolution.

In her preparation for the Golden Globes, Amy says the Zoom joke-writing meetings are going about as well as making the movie did — which is fantastic. “It’s going great. We’re really looking forward to it. It’s a blast to do, and just like the theme of Moxie, it’s really, really fun to do things with your friends,” Amy shared.

Noting that Canada's representing at the Globes this year, Amy also congratulated basically the entire country for Schitt’s Creek and all of its success. “Congratulations for Schitt’s Creek, Canadian jewel of the crown. And speaking of The Crown, they’ll all be there,” she said. Thank you. We accept this high praise for a project we had no hand in creating.

Schitt's Creek is nominated for five awards this year, including Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy. Catherine O'Hara, Dan Levy, Eugene Levy and Annie Murphy are all nominated for awards for their roles in the show as the Rose family. The Crown just so happens to lead the TV categories this year with six noms including Best Television Series - Drama, Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama, and Best Supporting Actress, which Gillian Anderson and Helena Bonham Carter are both nominated for.

Dropping three days after the Globes, Moxie stars actress Hadley Robinson who plays Poehler's daughter Vivian Carter in the film. The 49-year-old actress said that it was easy having Hadley play her daughter because she was “so impressed” by her work, her work ethic and the way she approached her scenes.

“She had a really, really hard job on this film. She was in every frame and in every day. So much of the set is — actors can really change the chemistry on set, and when you have someone like Hadley who works really hard, took things very seriously and was really open, curious, and a wonderful person, it’s just very contagious,” she said of her on-screen daughter.

“I was like proud of her like a mom would be. Also, I was completely impressed by her, and I had a lot to learn from her, so just like Lisa, I really watched her participate in the world and just like in the film, I’m obsessed with Lauren [Tsai] and Hadley being friends. In the same way I’m obsessed with Vivian and Claudia being friends. I never want them to stop being friends,” she said.
