On Sunday the 17th, Harry Brant, the 24-year-old son of supermodel Stephanie Seymour and billionaire Peter M. Brant, was found dead. In a statement, the family said it was due to an accidental drug overdose from prescription drugs; an addiction with which he had struggled for years.

“We will forever be saddened that his life was cut short by this devastating disease," the family said. "He achieved a lot in his 24 years, but we will never get the chance to see how much more Harry could have done."

“Harry was not just our son," continued the statement penned by Stephanie and Peter. "He was also a wonderful brother, loving grandson, favorite uncle and a caring friend. He was a creative, loving and powerful soul that brought light into so many people’s hearts. He was truly a beautiful person inside and out."

Harry began to make a name for himself in the style and trendsetter world while still a teenager. A regular at the Met Gala, he launched, along with his brother Peter II, a unisex line of makeup for MAC. Speaking about the need for acceptance surrounding men’s use of makeup, he told W Magazine in 2016, “I really think that once you leave high school, you realize that being normal is something that people want to shy away from, and the more true you are to yourself and the more individual you are, the more people are inherently attracted to you.”

He added that wearing makeup, “is all about fantasy and turning yourself into someone you might not necessarily be on an everyday basis, so you kind of get to escape for a night with this new persona. That’s what I always did.”

While he and his brother were hailed by New York Magazine as, “NYC’s Most Beautiful Teenage Brothers,” Harry himself particularly impressed Vanity Fair with his omni-presence in the New York jetset and his unique style, labelling him, “Little Lord Fauntleroy.”

He occasionally penned interviews and features for Interview Magazine, which is owned by his media mogul father, including this conversation with fashion designer Marc Jacobs about normalizing men in makeup. Following in his supermodel mother’s footsteps, he also dabbled in modeling, doing work with Italian Vogue and Balmain.

On social media, Harry, who had over 121,000 followers on Instagram, would often post tributes to his supermodel mother.

His personal troubles reached the public’s attention in 2016 when he was arrested and charged in Greenwich, Connecticut for drug possession, resisting arrest, and failing to pay for a taxi fare. According to his parents’ statement, he had plans to enter a new drug rehabilitation centre in 2021, and wanted to take on greater responsibility at his father’s magazine, Interview.

This isn’t the first time the Brant family has suffered the loss of a child. Peter's son Ryan Brant, from his first marriage to Sandra Simms, passed at the age of 49 from a heart attack.

Stephanie Seymour, who first rose to prominence in the early '90s as one of the original supermodels alongside Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, and Helena Christensen, famously dated Guns n’ Roses guitarist Axl Rose after marrying and divorcing guitarist Tommy Andrews in 1990. She then married Peter in 1995, going through a brief separation in 2009 before reconciling in 2010.
